I'm trying to figure out something. Why is the going price for a 70(or similar year) Grande' so low? Research tells me that they were the luxury models back in the day so intuitively I would think they would be closer in price to the standard fastback. Moreover, production numbers tell me that in 1970 39,470 fastbacks were produced and only 13,481 Grande's were produced. Granted they made around 7000 fastback deluxes, but any fastback or Mach I(40,970 were made) is worth a lot more than a Grande'. What gives?

Well, if you
1) use the original sales figures as an indicator of demand when they were new
2) assume the demand still breaks out the same way
3) apply the demand to pricing considering you can't just go to the dealer and buy them new anymore...
And it seems to make sense. People in general prefer Fastbacks to Coupes of the 69-70 model years--then and now. Not to say Coupes/Grandes don't have their followings and nice features...junkyard Grandes have supplied many upgrades for my 69 Fastback.

Good perspective Rustang. Thanks! Maybe the more rare the Grande' becomes, the more it's price will rise. We'll see!

Numbers produced have almost nothing to do with value today. There is a good reason that they produced far fewer Grandes than Machs.

People associate the Mustang with Performance not luxury. Same reason why the Mustang IIs aren't popular.

And seriously no offense to any Grande owners, but the coupes from 1969 up just don't look as good to me, and think alot of people probably feel the same way. Might be some subconcious thing associated with most of the performance models of the Mustang were based off of a fastback platform (Shelby's, Mach Is, Bosses, and most of the race cars), so people naturally like them more. Same reason the newer Mustangs have a fastback roofline.

No disrespect though. To me, a Mustangs a Mustang, but everyone has preferences.

I actually like the 69-70 coupes and almost no others.

My first car was a 1970 Grande, in Calypso Coral with a prtail black vinyl top and all the Grande trim. It was actually more sporty than luxurious, and if I could find one today, I would sell things to buy it. I loved that car.

My first hot rod was a 69 coupe that I converted from a 6-cylinder to a very warmed over 302. I learned a ton from that car. I still love the plain 69 coupes, but not the Grandes. I only like the 70 Grandes.

I would sell my really nice Maverick in a minute for the right 69-70 coupe.

I would love to have a Maverick with all the grabber stuff. Old skinny bumbers though, not the fatter ones. Always have loved those cars, they look sweet when done right. It'd be a great Nova killer if it had a warmed up 302. Any pics?

The grande's rock!

The reason they arn't in much demand is because they were boaring cars as far as mustangs go. They were almost all automatics, and rarely came with an engine larger than a 351C.

i presonally prefer the 69 coupes to all other coupes and even the earlier fastbacks. of course i might be a little biased since i have a 69 coupe. but yeah the coupes just aren't worth as much the fastbacks even though mine is a factory GT it still isn't worth as much as a well optioned basic 69 fastback.
