Green wire in fox trunk

That wire is for the trunk light. It uses a mercury switch to cut it on and off when you open the trunk. It is live 12v at all times. The bulb socket should be towards the drivers side of the trunk latch. The trunk release is only hot when the button is pressed in the glove box.

That would make a lot of sense. The car seems to have been through what almost looks like hell and back despite having next to no kilometres on it. The trunk light seems to be long gone and the release switch is connected to nothing. That being said I can’t find any connectors for it either.

Just curious man....check the tag on the core support..its a little tin tag recited to the drivers side behind the bumper. You can barely make it out from the top. The reason I ask is because most of the famed SSP cars didn't have a power trunk release or the factory style trunk light. It was a about 4 inch round light that was mounted differently.

This trunk light is part of the wire harness for the tag lights, third brake light and trunk release. I'm not going to cut up a harness for a trunk light, this is what I would do, go to a junk er, salvage yard and find a mid to late 80's ford like a crown vic and grab the trunk light, some of them will be under the back glass, don't get that one, mustangs have them on the lid, should be held by a green bolt.

Thanks for your help General, I have a nice and new to me light in the trunk with less of a fire hazard now.
