I am in the process of extending the grill shell on my 78 using a 74 nose section and fiberglass. Once I finish it, I am going to need a custom grill to fit in the deeper and wider grill. I have thought of perforated metal cut to fit, but thought I'd see if any of you have fabricated something custom. The grill material will be flat across the opening, but set back farther than stock. Any ideas?

This custom grill went across eBay a couple of years ago. Looks to be preforated or expanded metal attached to a stock '75-'78 trim piece.

I also saw this custom grill at the 40th Anniversary show in Nashville last year:

WraithII,
these are the latest pics of my II's nose piece. I think it's about what you're thinking of doing. I haven't made the grill yet but do know that a stock II's grill won't fit. I'm going with the perf. metal for my grill.

Has a very predatory shark-like appearance, cool.

Edit: That custom headlight area also reminds me of a 1958-1960 T-bird's,(sans the dual lights) That's an awesome mod, dude. Especially if you grafted and customized a 1958 T-bird honeycomb grill insert for it, too.

You are right RoadsterII, that is very similar to what I am doing, but not the area around the headlights, just the center section of the header panel. The way I have the 74 nose mated to the original one makes the front slope just a little. As soon as possible, I will take some photos and try to post.

Been there done that. I was going to put a recessed grill in mine but opted for the easier fitting 74 grill. Yours Looks good, takes some time, I sloped mine a little more. I even cut the bumper out. The 74 grille is actually smaller in width. .Mad mark would probably disagree with this though. CHECK OUT my pics in " member rides--and my first II "
