I searched all over and can't find out what's wrong.

One of my friends just picked up a 95 gt vert. We took it out for a spin to Vegas this past Saturday since they have this "the public can race for $10" thing going on. Well he decided he wanted to show off and have some fun. Green light came on and he was off. He said when he got to about 3k rpm there was a terrible grinding noise, same with every other gear. I could hear it in the stands too. He didn't try to pin point where the grinding was coming from, weather it was the engine or tranny since he was going 60-80.

So anyone have any and all idea's as what it could be. He wants to tear down and rebuild the tranny but I figured to find out the problem before we do something we don't have to. And I know T5's have issues, how do I find out what tranny he has?

Grinding when? When he put the clutch in? Just when the clutch was out? Can he baby it, keeping the RPM's below 3K and avoid the grinding? More info when the grinding happens would help.

This is what happened according to him.

Race starts. He floors it and it grinds badly when at about 3k-3.5k. He gets worried about it and shifts gear. Does the same thing in second. Now it doesn't happen in normal driving. Just when he full throttles it. It's a bit hard to explain how he is explaining it to me. From my perspective it seems like it grinds when the gear seems topped out.

See if the driveshaft has scores on it. The car might be squatting.
