Hello, I just bought a 2001 v6 mustang with about 53000 miles on it. I just got a new clutch kit put on it and a brand new flywheel from Ford (old one couldn't be resurfaced).
Anyway, I noticed that when I'm doing about 2000+ RPMs in first (about what you might do in a parking lot), and take my foot off the gas, the engine really makes a noticeable whirring noise as the revs slowly drop. Its very hard to describe, but it sounds a little weird and it doesn't really do in other gears.
Also, and I'm not sure if this is related, but when I shift gears, the engine makes almost a grinding type noise. It is similar to the noise that I talked about above, but it is less of a whirring and more of a grinding.
To sum up, I'm not sure if these sounds are normal in 5 speed mustangs or not, and if anyone could comment on that then I would really appreciate it.
Thanks again for reading,
Ryan
