Gripe: What happened to all of the progress threads?

Yeah, well people post build threads for one reason in my book: To get their ego stroked. In other words, "Hey! Look what I did".
It's like women w/ shoes. They don't buy them for themselves, they buy them for the other women to look at while they are on their feet. For somebody to post a pic, and say that they don't care what others think, and that they did it for themselves, I say . It's why we modify the car in the first place,....to look good while having a good time ( And In my case, looking like I do, I need all the help I can get)
Ozz, you'll always get positive comments out of most because nobody can deny that your shiny assed engine compartment looks killer.
And Slow90, the fact that you just starting eating solid food while building a car like yours will also bring out the lurkers offering up positive comments at the recent batch of bandwidth eating up, 17" monitor filling pictures of your car w/ the 7th, 8th, and 9th set of wheels and tires you just happened to have "laying around" Truth be told , you'd probably get hammered harder by the jealous types if they didn't think you did any of that work yourself, or that you worked to pay for it. I for one believe you, Oh,.I think you get paid real well,... but I think you did the work and bought it w/ the money you earned.
There is also a fellowship at SEFB that is reinforced by the fact that most of you guys are only a couple hours apart from each other, and personal meets are often do-able. Here, we are hundreds of miles (even thousands) apart from each, and that makes it hard to get to know anybody past this type of interaction. (Hell we may as well all just lie to each other and claim we have any car we want,...like internet dating)

Yes I have ran into a pretty decent amount of people that are jealous, but that's cool with me . Haters gonna hate. I did everything on the car myself besided actually building the motor. I did the upper intake and all of the cleaning/painting/ suspension/interior and all of the wiring. I just didn't feel comfortable doing the engine from the rockers on down.

Oh, and I make $7.00 an hour on weekdays and $10 an hour on weekends. But that's cash and under the table with no taxes, so it's actually pretty good pay. But most of the car was paid for by buying and selling parts and wheels and tires for profit. I buy all of my parts used for great deals, use them for a while, then sell them for what they're actually worth and move on to something better. It works for me!!!

And Mike... you need to get a life!!! You know wayy too much about me!!! I'm glad you're a few states away from me...
JK man. Hopefully I will see you and your car around sometime.

Progress threads are great. But I have noticed not only on this site but several others as well a trend. You see a thread with a guy going all out, engine swap, blah blah and almost no comments or motivation for the owner to keep posting. Then a thread goes up where a guy swaps bulbs in his gauge cluster and gets 1000000 comments about how amazing the cluster looks with new bulbs.

We have definitely lost a few members who were the usual suspects when it came to progress threads, which is unfortunate. I landed a new job this year, and my time on stangnet went from about 6 hours a day to 30 minutes. I'd love to be around more often, but it's tough. Plus I have just not had a lot going on with the Mustang lately, but hopefully that will change in the coming months. I agree though, the Fox section has slowed way down as of late.

I've been doing lots of work to mine. I just haven't made a progress thread on stangnet. I've got a progress thread on southeastern foxbodies but I guess I'll put one up here.

I've notice many people have given up on the progress threads. OR, it will hit the top every few months when something new happens. Some people are overseas away from their project, some have been hindered by funds for the project and some have just been hit by the economy in general.

i know a bunch of project threads that the owner bit off more then he could chew. one that stands out was the guy trying to build an X275 car in his apartment parking lot.

I don't post my progress on here because I consider what I am doing pretty much a restoration/fix it situation. Nothing like some of the work I've seen on here where the guy goes all out. I did post it on a blog to document the progress and to show my family and friends. And I have found some of my own mistakes reviewing the pics I've taken on certain projects which makes me happy that you all don't see it.

I haven't updated mine since i finished the initial build in 08, however I am about to paint my car, and i'll be doing so in my garage which i just re-finished for this purpose. So i'll be updating my progress shortly

It's all about learning and accepting information from others. You can't be afraid to show your efforts, nobody gets it exactly right on the first try... Except for me.

I understand that it's difficult to stop work to take a picture, especially when you are doing certain things on the car. Taking a picture is probably the last thing on your mind when you have an engine on the end of a cherry picker hanging over your car. However, documenting the things we do to these cars is fun for everyone here as well for the person doing the work.

I know I've missed good photo opportunities because I was concentrating so hard on what I was doing, but I just enjoy taking as many pictures as I can so I can look back on my efforts and see what was, and what now is. Posting those pictures here is just an added bonus.

I also make mistakes, and I know that there are people here that will call me out on dumb things I am doing. I've already tweaked certain aspects of my build based on suggestions from people on here. It's also nice to know when my build thread has inspired those to work on their cars again, or tackle a certain project after they once thought it was not something they could do themselves.

Man, you're right. I wish I had taken more time to document my first car a little better. I was so young and clueless. (16 years old). Had I known about this place and seen other builds, I could have done things right the first time.

I was gonna suggest he use the new military spec M17A1 self destructing unit that was just approved for the guys in the Navy. While stuff that's inside you self destructing might sound bad, it's reportedly only slightly worse than a post Taco Bell 4th meal internal gastric event. And......Never needs changing. Blows up (depending on "flow demand") every other hour to every few days, depending on how skanky you are.

I guess THAT takes care of THAT.
