Gripe: What happened to all of the progress threads?

What do you guys think about having section on here such as "Build Thread / Member Projects"? The Corral has a dedicated section and it seems to work. We could put all these Build Threads into one so you don't have to try and find them / search for them.
I like it better when it's comingled w/ everyday business (like it is here) The "build thread/members projects" presently exists here in a dedicated section already. You just have to request that your's is added to that, as I believe that it's only open to moderators.
Putting build threads in a dedicated section basically relegates the thread to la la land, and only a few that care ever see it.
This really sums it up, i have done alot of work to my car and when the new motor went in it i documented as much as i could but there wasnt a ton of interest, then id see bolt on cars with 100 pages. It dosent bother me, but im not going to take the time to post all the details if i am making posts and getting little to no response.
My posting on this site has slowed down for two main reasons.
One, i dont have a desk job anymore, so i dont spend a whole lot of time on the internet, and when i do, i want to be reading information that is relavent to me, and i wanna learn from what i am reading. I post and read more on the corral and yellowbullet, there is much more activity there, and the guys there are a little more serious than the crowd on here. I dont mean that to be offensive, it just is what it is. When Bruce Hemminger is going into ridiculous detail about his real street combination, or clutch setups, i am going to read that over someone on here asking if a B cam is better than an E cam. When Chris Uratchco is posting about port volumes, runner lengths and 800 hp NA small blocks, im gonna pay attention, i guess what i want to see isnt what stangnet has to offer in some respects.
Two, i really hate the new layout, i lurk around from time to time, but i still think the site is very cumbersome, and i joined it in 2003 when it was a forum. I dont know what it is now, but its not a forum anymore. All the other forums i go on havent changed much, and thats how it should be IMO. Bells and whistles dont do much for me.
I agree on your last point about the new forum layout. The navigation really hasn't changed much, but there is too much useless clutter, for example the "like" button. I'm not really sure what its use is on a site like this. Just like post count, it means jack
as far as what a user's technical knowledge or helpfulness is. I can just jump into a thread, make a post about titties, and get a "like". This is a car forum, not Facebook.I do like titties, though.
You mentioned the amount of B-cam-ish threads. Surely you don't mean the Talk section here has more of those than the 5.0/5.8 tech section in Corral!?! I can't stand that forum. I go straight to the classifieds and that's it.
As far as YB, I'll freely admit that my knowledge about anything 1320' related is miniscule compared to many of those guys on there. I lurk and try to keep up with the rocket science that has become drag racing. The thread in the stock suspension area about instant center and anti-squat blew my mind.
I come here because I feel like we can laugh, cut up, and look at pictures of each other's cars as they're being built. The serious stuff goes in the tech section, right?
I agree w/ you. Tech is tech. I rarely go there because so many of the questions are EFI related, and I can't answer how many injectors are on an 8 cylinder engine, much less anything beyond that. Talk on the other hand,......I wrote the book on talking
As far as Yellow Bullet goes,...It's not w/o it's BS either. Pages and pages of gossip about infidelity amongst members that goes 10 pages or more was just brought to my attention from my friend that helped w/ rear end. I really don't even know the people that are currently being being trashed over there, but to me it's the internet at it's lowest, and it's alive and well on the YB.
All is not lost.
The plan is to have thread tags up in the very near future. You'll be able to tag your thread as a build thread (say engine build or chassis build). Those that are interested in those kinds of threads will be able to search for them by the tags. The nice thing is you will have the option of searching either specific forums for these tags or even the whole site if you prefer.
It will be a nice feature vs. having them all relegated to one forum and you'll be able to group your search result the way you like.

Oh, most definitely has a trash section. Other than that area, it seems to be chock full of useful info, most of which I'll never need in 3 lifetimes of drag racing.
I was regular on there in 07. I had the EZ street car, and built it to compete in ORSCA. It is the collective for many very knowledgeable racers, but the open forum allows some real heathens to say whatever they want, whenever they want to say it.

i am guilty too just too many projects going on i spent 4 months redoing my whole basement this winter instead of working on my car.i still have to tile the floor but it was a big project and took up alot of my spare time.the weather started changing and started working outside on my landscaping and before i could get anything done i tore my calf muscle and sit around wondering when i can get back into the flow of things.my plan is to mate the motor and trans and drop it in sometime in the next few months.i atleast got the car back on all four wheels.
Your letting a small thing like a torn calf muscle stop you? Phht,..try welding w/ a damaged eye (that you just about put out w/ an expolding cut off wheel just a week before) Depth perception sooo bad that you weld things that weren't supposed to be welded.
OR you could try holding and grasping things w/ a hand that had a joint removed and replaced w/ tendon tissue less than a week after surgery
You can still walk can't you? Limp. NO excuses!!
I plan to implement a new resource center on the forums.
I don't have time right now to post the nitty gritty... But basically you will be able to post/manage your build, open discussions and post updates and people can subscribe to the resource etc. I think it may encourage a lot I interaction.

Sounds good. I imagine it will get lots of static at first , but will eventually be accepted.
Just like when Facebook started changing things a few years back. a day or two of lame petitions and then everyone realized it was still facebook.

Hmm, I'll be curious to see that.
Here are definitely a couple new features that are handy, for example the "@" thing. It's like now every member has a pager and we can all page each other as needed. Definitely helpful when you want to call someone into a thread that you know can offer good info.
But then some of the more social networking items, like "following". Not sure what that does for a car forum, but maybe that's just me.
You aren't pushing your luck till your wife bi tches you out. When you get the "you're gonna mess around until" speech, then you know you're doing stuff.
