I just went to an old time garage to look into my transmission issues. Two hundred bucks an hour. Two hundred and twenty five for older cars like mine. Tomorrow I'm going to a couple more. I don't mind paying, but I don't want to be lied too...Ive already told the story of the transmission shop I had my car sent too and it came back on a flat bed. They didn't want to do it

Don't blame you for checking around. 225 an hour is a hard pill to swallow.

... I never thought I'd mechanic professionally, but at 225 for labor, hell yes I would. And, no, I would never pay that unless I was making $400k+/yr and there were no alternatives. There is no technical skill nor physical labor involving cars I wouldn't rather learn to do myself for that amount of money.

Is that really their going rate, or is it just their way of saying off unless you're a multi-millionaire?

Over 10 years ago the going rate at New Car Dealerships in the Seattle area were over $200 per hr.
What the Technician in the shop makes turning wrenches is but a small fraction of that.

Yep. They don't call em stealerships for nothing. They've gotta cover that fancy building and all the overhead & management bloat. But a small shop?! I paid half that for custom fab work on father time and still felt it was high.

Pete, you can figure this out I'm sure. Just take your time,its not your daily so you got all winter to do this.
There is a ton of videos from professional trans people, watch them as many times as you need and get at it.

My transmission has never been beaten on. Im still wondering if the pivots too high or low. Would this new stock clutch kit be any higher than another. They all seem like they come out of the same factory. Id pull the trans for the third time if I know the pivot adjustment was off that much

Here you go Pete - this is the pivot height in the bell housing I pulled from my convertible last winter. Looks like it's about 2-9/16 to the bottom of the ball and about 3 inches to the top. This should get you in the ballpark....
