What version of the GT-40 heads are the preferred version?

Bang-for-buck wise, the GT-40p heads outflow the standard GT-40's on the exhaust side and have a smaller cc combustion chamber out of the box, so they'll make more power.

If you're gonna go with ported heads, get whatever you can cheaper. I'd personally go standard GT-40's in that case to make header selection easier, plus to get all you can out of porting you want the bigger exhaust valve you already have in that case, the P head outflows on the exhaust due to port shape more than size. That goes out the window somewhat with a good port job.

If you're thinking X's or Y's, I'd just get AFR 165's, you'd have to spend a small fortune on a port job for X's to keep up with AFR's.

If you have gt40's or are going to get them freshend up...get ahold of thumper. After getting them cleaned up, milled, new springs, valve jobd'. the cost was very close to what he charges for porting, mill, clean up (and they look better than any machine shop cleanup with the paint), and for alittle extra new springs...

he did my reg gt40 heads and wow is all I can say as far as how they look.

here are some pics

Looks nice, I've know a guy who's going to hook me up. I'm willing to do the removing and he'll just do the porting. While they're out, I'll probably paint them too. Did he powdercoat them?

It's just engine enamel. Just don't skimp on your headwork. Do the whole 9 yards on them (mill/valve job/check guides/new springs/new valves if needed). You might as well and it will be well worth it knowing your heads are in good shape. The heads will respond very well to a smart port job.

If you're interested i'm selling the worked GT40 irons off my car because i am getting aluminums soon and they'd cost you much less than having a set of heads with this kind of work done. They have been stage II ported, polished, and milled to 58cc chambers by PAR racing, have titanium retainers, comp springs, and upgraded 1.94/1.6 stainless valves. They have less than 1000 miles on my car. I'm letting them go pretty cheap considering i have over $800 in head work and parts on these because i need the aluminums sort of quickly. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

fiveo'cobra . . . How did that setup run anyway? I don't remember you ever mentioning it. You planning to ask more than $400 for those things?

With those heads, my E cam, and ported lower cobra intake, i ran an 8.5 in the 1/8th on a stiff autocross suspension and 255 yokohama avs radials untuned. So i know these heads have some power. I've ridden in a few trickflow headed cars and i wasn't suprised when i found out these pulled just as hard.

None. The irons now have stainless 1.94/1.6 valves though.
