my car shifts fine at normal speed but when i step on the gas and the overdrive kicks in it won't shift unless i let go of the gas, and also the engine fells like it's running out of gas, i was told that it's the mass airflow sensor.

what gear ratio are you running in the rear? With the AODE anything 4.10 and up with a 16" tire will bounce off the limiter and not shift unless done manually.

feels like no gas, like stumbling/hesitation? Any check engine lights? To clean the mass air sensor, go to Kragen/AutoZone and pick up a spray can MAF cleaner. Douche the sensor real good and let it dry, then hook everything back up. The spray works real well and should cure your problem should it be a dirty MAF.

Do you have a timing gun? Check to see that your timing is 10* with the spout connector out.

Do you have a way to check the fuel pressure as well? Some other possible things to consider should be fuel filter/fuel pump.

Finally, how is the general tune up on the vehicle? If the fuel filter and pump check out OK, look into general maintenance items such as spark plugs/wires/cap and rotor and coil.

dont go WOT with OD on. it will kill the tranny. i leave OD off unless on the highway or at higher speeds.

do a full tune up if one wasnt done already. like stated above and check your air filter too

I go WOT all the time with OD on and my trans is fine; I think what hurts the AODE is when your WOT in 3rd gear and then try to go into OD without lifting.

OD is not a gear, it's a band (kevlar, I believe). As it wears out, your tranny will slip while in OD when you apply too much gas. Eventually, the OD band will not hold and OD will constantly slip; effectively "losing" OD.

When you go WOT while in OD, you are putting stress on the OD band until the tranny downshifts to 3rd. I would also presume you stress the OD band if you are at WOT and the tranny shifts into OD. I could not tell you how much stress, however.

I'm just glad I have a T5 now. One less thing to worry about.

thanks for the explanation bud My trans was rebuilt back in 2002 with upgraded everything, so maybe that's why I've been OK thus far

Truth be told, I'd still kick this trans to the curb in a second for a T5

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I also hear that littls sensor (MLPS??) is usually the culprit when you experience this.
