Hello to everyone: After comparing my factory 1990 upper intake with my recently bought 1996 explorer intake, they are not obviously the same in the vacuum connections.
The old one connects to the vacuum tree, the fuel regulator, PCV valve and one that goes to a vacuum distributor from the gas pump.
The GT40 provides other ports and here's my confussion.
Does any one have a diagram or something that shows how to connect this intake and what ports to be needs deleted. Thanks for your help

Vacuum is vacuum: it doesn't matter where you source the vacuum from. All you have to do is match the hose sizes - don't connect a big hose to a little vacuum port and expect it to work well.

The fuel pressure regulator is the only thing that shouldn't share a vacuum line with something else. That's because if the FPR diaphragm leaks, it will spread fuel throughout the vacuum lines and devices attached to it.

Vacuum line connections:
One large vacuum line from the upper front goes to the carbon canister

One large vacuum line from the rear goes to the vacuum tree.

One small line in the front feeds the Smog pump solenoid control valves on the rear of the passenger side wheel well..

One small line in the rear goes to the fuel pressure regulator.

One small line in the rear goes to the EGR suction regulator.

One large line in the rear goes to the PVC valve.

Man that was helpful!!!!!! I will be using the one that goes to the vacuum tree, fuel press. reg, and the PCV valve. The smug pump will be deleted and so all the related hardware. Also, the EGR will be deleted.
Does the carbon canister has something to do with the smog pump? CAn I remove it?
Last, can I plug the ports in the intake that are not going to be used?
Thanks

The smog pump are connected to the carbon canister. So if you are deleteing the smog pump, then just remove and label everything before you put them away ( Hoses, bracket and clamp ).
Plug every unuse port so you won't get vacuum leaks.

The smog pump is not connected in any way, shape, fashion or form to the carbon canister. The carbon canister is connected to the fuel tank. Removal of it may cause gas vapors to become apparent in the passenger compartment.

Also while the A.I.R. pump may be of limited benefit to the enviroment the charcoal canister is working 24 hours a day to help us breath better. It is stuck way down at the front of the engine compartment and doesn't hurt a thing.
