which head is better? the gt40p or the 3 bar gt40

I believe the Ps actually flow better (google them and youll find plenty of sites with power and flow numbers) though you need a specific P header or else some have had issues with plug wires being melted. Either one is better than stock though.

I'd go with the P if you are going through the trouble of upgrading to a stock head, you'll want to get all the ponies you can!

as stated above, i have heard the P's flow better but i dont believe its a huge amount more. i would do gt40s rather than the P's if i already had headers and did not want to buy another set. although i have heard of guys using mac shorties with the P heads and the clearance is there

If you're going to pay to have them ported and by the time you have the machine shop go through them, springs etc you are getting close to aluminum head range, eh?

I was at your same spot about a year ago. I did the math, I have aluminum heads now.

If you are staying N/A, the aluminum heads are starting to look VERY attractive. If budget is a concern then you are in the wrong hobby. Do it right the first time.

If your going to port them the nonP's can be porter more due to the P's having a water passage that does not allow them to be ported as much. The P's will flow more stock for stock over the non P's.
