Sell the 40's

Put that money with the $700
then
Get yourself a GOOD set of heads

Build your combo around a set of heads that will make MORE POWER
than the outdated OEM gt40 stuff

That is a long term NA plan that will make 300 rwhp or a bit better

How about keeping the 40's and continue to add to the $700 for a
blown combo which would take you past the 300 NA combo

Then again ... if going blown ... just sell the 40's and use the
OEM heads

Also ... you could do some juice ... if you are into that kinda thing

Gotta consider all the options ... don't ya know

Case in point... Eddy heads with rockers.... 750.00. Thumper will charge you bout 650.00 to rework your GT40s. Had some Thumper E7s and no complaints here.... its a fine line to stepping up to aluminum for bout the same dinero... good luck choosing...

You could sell your gt40s and with the money from them and the 700 you will be getting close to owning a set of TW's!

The whole iron vs aluminum thing has been beaten to death. If you want to save for a bit longer, sure buy aluminum, but there is nothing wrong with cleaning up some iron heads. You will get a power increase by using them. Send them off to Thumper, and for that $700 they will be practically new heads with upgraded valve springs, seals, and will be ported/polished. Anyone who says you can buy used aluminum heads for under $1k is right, but you still have to figure the cost of sending them off to be checked and possibly have bit of work done to freshening them up too. Enjoy your new score man.

I'm never one to say use the search button, but this has been covered so many times its not funny.

My 2 cents... spend a little money on new valve springs for the GT40P's or sell them and use your $700 to buy new aluminum heads. I wouldn't waste a single dime on ported stock pieces when there are so many benefits to running aluminum aftermarket heads for just a little more coin.

if these stock gt40p vs Thumper are the only option you are considering,

I would go Thumper, Thumper heads flow almost well as out of the box aluminum heads. i have seen it on a bench! and his porting price is very good.

for most competition porting/valve job, it will cost right around $1000 or more, for what he does and his workmanship, his price are very good.

Personally i never bought anything from thumper, i have considered it but i have seen his heads at local porting service getting new springs put on and his heads flow! I was surprised, For 302 or 306 thumper heads are very ideal.

Good luck
