I met a guy who has 2- gt 40y heads fully assembled. Does anyone know what other modifications are needed to swap these over. Or are they pretty much interchangeable on a 94 gt. Thanks
They are a direct bolt on. I wouldn't buy them unless you are getting a hell of a deal. The Y heads, in my opinion, are the worst GT40 head as far as horsepower per dollar is concerned.
Take a serious look at the new Edelbrock 60379 Performer 5.0 heads. These are a direct bolt on. I bought the old design 6073s from Year One 3 years ago for $989. If you can get the redesigned ones for that price then jump all over it!!
400 is a fair price, actually i wouldnt pay nemore for them, they arent very good in stock trim, but take ur time and buy a porting kit and work on them at night on the weekends or something and you wil have u a nice set of heads, and u can tell everyone that you did them also not some damn shop lol everyone will give u alot of respect for doing something like that
I made over 450rwhp with stock GT-40Y heads, all the bolt-ons, and of course a supercharger. Never dynoed the car naturally aspirated but saw a dyno at the shop of a car with similar mods and stock Y heads making as I recall about 280rwhp/310rwtq SAE. I've got an old SuperFord magazine with a car making 275/310 as well with the heads. I think it boils down more or less to the combo and not the heads alone. They are old school by today's standard but I'm sure for a good price you could buy them and have them worked on.
