I don't currently own a Mustang but I am very interested and saving money to put a nice down payment on a GT. I really want the GT500 but that $43,000 base price is way out of my price range. I thought that I could just buy a GT, put a supercharger on it, and get all the GT500 body panels and make a clone. I pretty much know what most of you are going to say but let me hear your opinion.

it has been done many times, and looks good. if you do the conversion, i would skip the emblems. IMO, the emblems are the most controversial part of the swap.

I don't have a problem with people who do the "sheetmetal" part of the conversion, but don't do the emblems and graphics. That's going too far and not much different from passing off a $40 sidewalk Rolex as the real thing.

I get what y'all are saying! Do the body panels but leave off the cobra, shelby emblems and the GT500 side stripes. I still have to do the racing stripes down the middle though. Thanks for the input so far, would love to hear more opinions though!

I say go for it and I also agree about NOT badging it as one as well.
I plan on adding the Roush rear spoiler, window louvers, front fascia and suspension, but not adding any of the stickers or badging to mine.

Hi TXM. Although I voted not a good idea, it's your car and you should do what makes you happy with your ride. My suggestion since you asked is don't do the emblems.

I'm making a slight wheel modification myself - 17x9 GT500 OE Creations replicas with 255/50 rubber. I didn't want to change the total diameter nor the suspension components. I bought the running horse center caps to put in place. The reason I'm doing this is because Ford underequipped the GTs as far as wheels and rubber. The GT500 wheels are simply beautiful too. I was thinking of getting a GT500 bumper cover but my own feeling was I didn't overtly want to make it look like something it isn't.

Months ago, I spyed a 6 banger with all the GT emblems but the giveaway was the single exhaust. I didn't get a chance to see the front bumper cover. Obviously, the guy badged his 6 banger as a GT or tried to pass it off as one. All is good however.

Again, it's your car and you should do what makes you happy and not what others think.

One thing I never really understood was the whole name combination of the "Mustang Cobra". I mean, come on...is it a horse OR a snake?????? To me the 2 names should not be used on the same car. Not knocking any of the proud owners of said cars over the years, just my $.02.
