When installing an after market temp guage do you have to have the after market and the stock guage hooked up?? i was told if you leave the stock guage unhooked that the car would not run correctly is this true??

Thanks
Adam

These motors use two sensors. One on the heater tube tells the puter how hot the water is and the one on the front of the intake tells the gauge how hot it is. I remove the thermostat housing and drill and tap it out to 1/2" NPT and mount the gauge there. No sense having a non functioning stock gauge on the dash.

I just went to Lowe's and got a brass T-fitting.

I just put the Autometer one on the top, and the stocker on the side. ....and don't mind the sticker. :nice:

Tee fitting will not be as accurate. the probe needs to be exposed to the flow of coolant. with a tee, the senders are in an alcove of coolant.

you can put the new sender in the stock location and put the stock sender in the rear lower intake (that location is not as accurate, but the stocker sucks anyhow, IMHO).

Jamie's idea is great too - if the sender for your particular gauge fits. some probes are too long.

good luck.
