Guess this line...

Reassembling my intake project has been interesting. after a few broken bolts, cracking hoses, cooked coil, cap, and rotor, and pcv problems, I think Im about to wrap it up. The only thing I have left now is to connect a line, and I have no clue where it goes . It runs from the dual reservoir looking thing in front of the radiator (looking at the car its the lt raditor front side) and has one connector that goes onto the fuel injector harness. I plugged that in, but dont have a clue where the male end of the hose goes. Its got a ribbed, plastic covering over it, and lookes like it can run all the way back to the fire wall, but that leaves it no slack. I took the car apart almost a month ago, and short term memory has failed me at the moment as to where it goes. I havent been able to find hide nor hair of it in the haynes manual either. Any help/diagrams would be greatly appreciated. Ill try and have the g/f post a pic of the line when she gets off of work today sometime.

sounds like your smog can to me. if it's a big black box that it's coming from, yes it has a connector that's around the fuel rail and the tubing part of it goes to the back of the intake.

Where does it go on the back of the intake??? Upper or lower??? The tree i attached to the upper intake contains the fpr line, smog line, and a hose from the vacuum tree on the firewall. Also, I dont see how that thing can stretch back to underneath the upper, but I guess its possible. Heres that diagram I was talking about... This is how I ran the hoses on mine.

It sounds like the line that runs from the charcoal canister to the intake. On the stock intake it attaches to a port underneath the front of the upper intake. There are 2 ports on the front. The other one is for the pcv hose that loops around to the back. I see you don't have a stock intake. I am not sure if yours has the port on the front.

If it indeed is coming from your smog canister and goes to your intake it goes on the front left of the upper intake.

So looking at the diagram of mine, where would it go If it goes on the top left, according to the diagram I posted, where does the pcv go??? The hose on the top left, when it points down, goes directly to where the pcv slot is, so thats what I put there. Do I need to attach the pcv somewhere else, or what needs to be done here?

Point 1: In the picture you provided (if you were to hook up that smog canister line like stock) it would go on the other side of the intake directly across from that brass colored plug where you have the pcv valve at.

If you were to split that picture in half (vertically) and you were to hook it up like stock...the PCV valve hose would swing around to the bottom right "hole" and the one above that (as I mentioned above) would be where the smog canister line goes...

Point 2: If you were to put the intake down like it would be on the car...the smog cansiter line goes on the front left of the upper intake. The PCV valve hose rolls around from the PCV valve itself onto the side of the intake and wraps around to the front of the intake into the other port beside the carbon (smog) canister line.

Hope that isn't to confusing...I tried to give you a couple vantage points

Thanks man, I understand what you are trying to say, but on my stock piece, across from the brass fitting, was a spot, but it was capped off

nevermind, just went out and looked at my stock intake. there was an extra port in the stock thats not in the cobra intake.

ok, attempt at a solution...

is this a vacuum line??? Can I buy a splitter, split where I now have the pcv valve going, send one to the pcv, then send the other to connect with the smog canister? Or.... Can I split where I have the vacuum tree hooked up to the fpr. Split that line, have one go to the fpr, and the other to the smog canister. Those are the easiest way that I could think of, any other ideas???

Uncap the capped portion and use it for the carbon canister line. Did you buy the Cobra intake used?

Have you ever seen Mustang5L5's picture of the intake vacuum line routing?

I'm sorry I can't be of much help...if I could see it in person I could do much better with it

I dont have anything capped on the Cobra Intake. I bought it new from gefracing.com. ive always had good experiences with them. Out of the box it only has 2 openings on it, instead of the 3 from the factory.
I plumbed the Cobra piece as shown above in Post #3. It leaves a spot for the pcv and then the vacuum tree all in all it gives me 4 spots run lines to. The factory piece has 5 places for lines to run.
Does anyone know if that line from the canister is a vacuum line? If so then I should just be able to split it into the vacuum tree somewhere and be good to go.

Yep (unless you typed those letters in the Mustang5L5 picture) that is where it goes...

On my stock intake I had 5 ports to where something can hook up to.

The back (underside of the upper) on the passenger side I had blocked (used to be where part of the PCV valve hoses went)...then the vaccum tree on the back (had 3 different connections running off of it where one was for the Main Vacuum line (S), one for the EGR, one for the fuel pressure regulator). Then there was one that was on the driver side on the side of the upper intake that was a "two-way" where it was a hose that ran from the pcv valve up to the upper intake and then wrapped around to the front of the upper intake. It went into the right of the front of the upper intake. It recirculated the crankcase pressure to burn off. The remaining "hole" was for the smog/carbon canister which is what your talking about. It was on the front left of the upper intake...it isn't located in the same place obviously by the picture above.

I know I'm just probably confusing you more and reitterating what what I have already said...(so think of it is a "bump")

I think the carbon canister line is there to "reinject" the fumes from the gas tank into the intake to burn them off for better effieceincy so I don't think it is a vacuum line but don't quote me on it...

With that being the case, Im hoping I can try and fire her up tonight. If I didnt butcher reinstalling the distributor, it should be good to go. If I did, screw it up, Im taking it to the shop, letting them fix it and have them install heads and a cam while they are at it .

I hope it works out for ya...I know you have had a lot of vaccum line questions so if it fires up you got it

But to the vaccum line question if you look on the far right of the pic he has a little red arrow pointing to where that "stock" position was...which is where the smog canister line went so you should be golden

Is your 03 Gt performance red? (like in the pic)

Ill know tonight if the thing blows up or not lol. Ill let you guys know how it turns out. Its definately been a learning experience for me thats for sure. Its frustrating to all end, but even if Ive goofed somewhere, Ill eventually figure it out, and fix it. In the end, that do it yourself feeling is rewarding .

My '03 is actually called Torch Red Ive found out. When I purchased it I was told it was Performance Red, thats even what my sticker said.
After some car shows and research it turns out "Performance Red" is an EXTREMELY rare color. Only a few '93's were painted that color, and from what Ive found they dont even have a clear coat. When you wax them, you actually have paint on your rag ext... I also think all '00 Cobra R's were Performance Red. After doing some work on mine, I noticed Colorado Red stickers on the inside bumper, and in other spots. After talking with the dealer and all again, Torch Red and Colorado Red are the same. The brochure for the '03's said Torch Red, but the car code is for Colorado Red. Long story short lol my car is not Performance Red, its Torch/Colorado Red, but yes, it is the same red as in the avatar.

StangLou - My 2000 Mustang Gt was performance red and they aren't that rare at all. I forgot that Torch Red looks very similar to Performance Red.

I believe 2000 (maybe some in 99) was the first year for performance red on a production vehicle.

I believe your dealership informer is a bit mistaken...

Go out to start her up last night. It turns and turns but wont turn all the way over. Im like huh, its not getting any fuel, or the battery is weak from being unhooked for almost a month. I attach my '03 via cables and it still wont turn over. Its getting late and its time to go inside for the night. My g/f is like huh I smell gas, so it must be the battery.
I get up this am and decide to check the obvious. Prime the pump a couple of times and check injectors and fuel rails since she smelled gas, I see nothing. I turn the key a few more times to get the pump going, and crawl under the car. Sure enough gas is pouring out of one of the connectors. Good thing the car never fired up, or it may have really fired up I unplug the connector, and reattach it. Prime it a few more times and jump under the car again. Its stopped coming out of the connector, but apparently detaching it the first time, I cracked the hose/line because fuel is coming out of it now.
Anyone know where I can get that line that will have that part of the fuel fitting attached to it. It the ~8-12" of line that attaches to the metal lines at the front fender well. It appears to be braided with a rubber hose over them. It then attaches to a fuel fitting, then runs up to the rails where it meets another fuel fitting, then it goes into the rails, then injectors.
Im so close, I can taste it with this car... whoops... no thats just gas

I'm having some trouble following what part of the fuel rail your talking about...is it the one that bolts up or runs vertical to the heads and actually bolts down to a head bolt?

Your battery could be low as well...

Its the one that bolts down vertically compared to the head. they connect about mid length down the engine compartment. Then run to metal lines at the front fenderwell. Thanks for all the help man!!! Fun Fun Fun

Those are the lines that lead to and from the fuel tank (feed and return line)...the only place I can think of that would have them is a Ford dealership or go by a junkyard if your that lucky. They might make aftermarket pieces that are universal that would work? I would personally make another thread on it since you will get more replies hopefully because a viewer will know what your asking...
