Guessing Game: What Broke!?

Well tonight it was cool out, and I was heading down to my college (30 minutes away) to bring out the car. I caught a light and decided I'd give it a little more throttle this time. I got sideways going into second a bit early (26'' Hoosiers shifting at 6200) and pedaled it back around. Short shifted into third (5500) and let off the pedal. Unfortunately it looks like the input shaft or converter let go before I did.

No gears, but I still have park and neutral. Well 5 neutrals.

So, converter? Input shaft? Pump? The car still starts up just fine, spins just fine, and I can put the car in park and it won't move anywhere. Underneath the drive shaft and rear are fine.

I knew this trans was toast behind the new motor, I just thought it would last for a little longer without spraying the car.

For the guys running their cars on the street or under prepped tracks, how are you doing with the trans brake?

if its a c4 and dependign on rear end. im guessing either converter or forward drum. you can rip the splines out of both of them if you abuse them too much. ive done both. at least twice. did you hear a clunk?

Sorry about that, it's an old FMX. It was rebuilt and held up to my old motor just fine. The new motor has a little more to it though.

Look at the two "ears" on the converter hub that engage the front pump. I've been told that was the weak link in an FMX.

that is a weak link but generally speaking unless you're doing 4k rpm neutral drops they won't break catastrophically like that, in fact i've done 30 mph reverse drops (dumb kid in high school crap) and never had an issue with them breaking. i think more than likely the pump fragged or the input shaft broke. could also be a failed forward drum but that's not as likely since reverse is gone too.
