Guys... just need to ask something about the 5.0s

I may enter the 5.0 realm soon and Im just wondering how many miles you guys have on your Stangs... I hear that they last quite a while and i know some with over 150k still running but I just need more peace of mind.

My last two 5.0's had over 100k, stock 5spds, ran great....the current car has 98k on the body, 40k on tranny and engine

I have a 1994 5.0 in my '65 Mustang. Engine and tranny both have 160k on them. Only problem is the tranny will grind into second a little when it's cold.

My '88 GT has 127k (i think...odometer just says 27k) and it shows it's age a little more. It burns a little oil and the tranny grinds in 4th.

Hard telling which one has had the most s**t run out of it. Neither one of them get a break from me.

They both run pretty well actually. The '88 impressed a few of my friends and it will put your ass in the seat no problem. The '65 is breaking driveline parts. It runs very well, considering the very mild mods it has.

hell there are some with 250k+ miles and still going fine.

some people beat the piss out of them and they still last 100k+.

Got my car bone stock down to the spark plugs at 91K miles. Beat the crap out of it until 156K then it started to just not perform as well as usuall, leakdown test confirmed it wasn't as strong as it once was. People are spraying 200K+ engines all the time, all depends.

Non modded cars will prolly go 200,XXX miles. With the exception of mabey the waterpump radiatior and power steering

man, just about all stangs around here are 130k+ and just about all of them still run hard as hell. a friend has an 88 coupe 5speed with 185xxx miles on the ticker...it's stock other than 3.73's and an h pipe and he ran a 13.7@99. the car could have run 13.5's easily.

Not the stang but another ford I own just hit 500,000. My 88 Ford Taurus. It's had no enginge troubles OR tranny issues. Only things changed/replaced are heater core, alternator, solenoid and battery. And tune up pieces of course. Still has pep too! Runs 17.2 according to my buddy's G-Tech timer. Probably cracking off 4 second 60'! lol

Those are the nomal things you would have to replace after 100k miles. Same thing on my F150 with 170k miles.

I ripped my motor out and apart at 105k for a rear intake seal that was leaking. this is a somewhat typical problem. Not hard to change at all, but anyways i touch one thing and somehow screw upp the head gaskets, made a damn milkshake in the crank case withing a few days. Ran like a champ b4 it, just had to touch it...lol. rebuilt the bottom end, but the internals, walls, and everything looked damn near new, it was exy to say the least . Anyways runs hard as a mofo with all the new gaskets and bearings. Impresses everyone.

153K on a stock drive train. Nothing's been rebuilt and it all works just fine.

I have about 145,000 miles on my 85 GT. I just did a compression test and all 8 cylinders were around 160 psi.....I'd say these engines can go well past what I have on mine.

130k is nothing. You have to think the newest 5.0's are 10 almost 11 years old. I have 127k on mine and it runs awesome. I have owned 3 stangs all with over 100k and haven't worried about the engines at all.

The trannys are a different story. The stock 5speed's are weak even for a stock stang. They usually have to be replaced after 100k or so depending on driving style.

my 88 has 198 000 km's on the body and until i yanked the motor for something a little more "peppy" it ran very strong, i was pulling away from my buddies 350 camaro, right nw i have 1000 km's on the new motor
