Guys running Amsoil..I have a question for ya

I just got some Amsoil 5W-20 synthetic oil in my stang. (I bought a case from their website) Do you all run 6 1/2 quarts per oil change? As in 6 quart oil pan and an extra half quart in the oil filter. The guy said it looked like I could add another half quart

I was going to do that tomorrow. Also, I used the Motorcraft oil filter. Do you guys use the Amsoil oil filter so you dont have to change for 7,500. I was going to get another case from them in not too long, I could get a couple of filters when I ordered if you all think that its worth it. I was also thinking an extra 2 quarts since it needs 6 1/2. Thanks

The amount of oil the GT's take varies. My car only takes 5qts. and it is completely full. I add anymore and it will drain out. Some take more though and when you change the filter, you have to add a bit more back as you loose some in the filter change. If you're going to be buying that much oil, it would probably be cheaper to buy it by the 12qt. bottle and save yourself a couple bucks. I don't think the 7500 series 5w-20 is offered in the gallon sizes, I'm pretty sure on that. As for the filter, it is best if you use the Amsoil heavy duty filters with their oil. Synthetic filters will out filtrate the Motorcraft filters. I know many think that Motorcraft filters are good since their made by Wix and all, but still, its an ordinary paper filter media and I know for a FACT by my own experience that the motorcraft filters do not filtrate as good as synthetic filter media like that found in the Amsoil filters. I know because I still remember when I used to change my oil when using the Motorcraft products the oil would come out and I could feel some dirt particles inside of it and that was only after 3k miles of normal use. I then switched to synthetic oil and and synthetic filter and at my next oil change(which was at 3k since it was only Mobil 1 and not Amsoil) I drained it and the oil came out clean as could be. I check and checked it over and over again and could find no dirt or metal particles of any kind. Rubbing it through my hands over and over and still no sign of feelable or seeable contamination. Definately good stuff.

My GT takes 5 1/2 qts with a filter change. I just did it last night. I'm running AMSOIL 5w-30 in mine with the Motorcraft filter. I've3 been thinking of switching filters but I still have 7 Motorcrafts left.

What you need to do is drain the oil, replace the filter, then put 5 qts. in and start it up. let it run for a minute, then shut it off and let it sit for a minute. then check the level and add some from there if needed. If you do it this was you'll figure what you need to put in at every change.

When I was n/a I used 5 quarts with the Amsoil filter and it read at the full mark. I would think that 6.5q would be about .5 qts too much, b/c I'm using 6.5qts now with the blower.

Thanks for all the info DarkNightGT :nice:

Yeah I think ill pick up three of those Amsoil oil filters, when I order my next case. Then Ill be set for 3 more oil changes. :D . On the link in my first post, It talks about that too. So I guess since I used that Motorcraft oil filter, it will only be good for 3,000 miles. The filter that is...not the oil :flag:

Edit- oh yeah I checked the amsoil website, and it goes from a case to a 30 gallon drum for 510.00 dollars for the 5W-20 XL 7500 syn that I am using. Dont think my roomate would like that sucker sitting in the living room of our apt :D

Actually, yeah that is what the guy did at the little valvoline quick oil changer place. He showed me the dipstick too. I was kinda surprised that it needed more, plus I bought a case of the Amsoil, so obviously 6 + 6 would give me two oil changes. I live in apt. and work second shift as far as using a buddies driveway/garage to do it myself. Anyways, I wonder what year they started using the 6 qt. oil pan

I will double check here, as I am about to go and add the extra half qt. if that what is needed.

I would think that 6.5 Quarts would be too much too, but  who knows. This is my first full synthetic oil change. Car has 23,000 miles now. in the past I have just taken it to the Ford dealership and have been running the 5W-20 synthetic blend. I am about to go check it out again now.

My '03 only takes about 5.5 including filling the oil filter. Be very carefull overfilling with oil. Your car will start blowing it out one hole or another. Worse comes to worse, you could blow a front/rear main seal and those are a pain to fix... trust me... dont ask... :nonono:

Your right about being very careful. I just went and checked..that oil is so dang thin, its hard to get an exact read. Im going to consult, before I add anymore :nice:

The only thing I don't like about the Motorcraft oil filters is their filtration sucks compared to a synthetic filter media filter. If I were you, I'de just put those oil filters for sale on one of the classified adds here and be like, "Yeah, I'm selling 7 Motorcraft oil filtes and I'm not a parts dealer. PM me for info." :D

Seriously though, you'll love the filtration of the Amsoil filter compared to the Motorcraft.

Can anyone recommend a good oil filter other than the Amsoil one? I'm putting Mobil1 in tommorow and I haven't gotten a filter yet. I plan to change it every 6k miles so I want a good synthetic filter too.

If you don't want to go with an Amsoil oil filter, then Mobil 1 makes some good ones as does K&N. You can also try a Hastings filter if you can find it. If you don't want one of those, you can try Bosch(don't know how good they are but heard good things) or Purolator but the Purolators do have some flow restriction, but good filtration. If none of these, then stick to the Motorcraft oil filters. Whatever you do, please, no Fram, STP, Quaker State or Penzoil. They are all crappy.

I wouldn't mind using Amsoil but I'd rather pick something up at Autozone than try to order it.
You can always try calling the local auto parts stores and checking around town to see if anyone carries Amsoil products. I'm sure someone out there in Phoenix does.

As far as I know Amsoil is only online. At least us California Bums. :D

Dark Knight, and Fallen Phoenix, You guys know 1990StangLX, as in Beau? Hung out with him tonight. That damn JBA Evol cat-back sounds so damn good. what is the deal with those bastage 32v'ers? Why is that cat-back so damn loud, when my 2V American Thunder cat-back about gets drowned when I am behind him????

Anyways, got a third gear chirp..on the way down to PB, up a slight hill...not too shabby for an ol' sonic blue 2v'er with some Steeda products and an SCT tuner chip with those slower edit- 3.73 (aka I supposedly regret I did not get 4.10's) :D
