guys that did aerostar driveshaft

i just picked up a driveshaft from a 97 awd...the length is good... my question is about the shaft that goes into the back of the trans. the one from the aerostar seems to have a balancer on it similar to a harmonic banancer, can that be swapped out for the mustang one and not cause vibration problems? i mean, the frpp doesnt have one right?

You can take that off. Over time, the rubber gives way and causes vibration, so you end up taking that thing off anyways. As long as the shaft doesn't have dents in it and you have two new U-joints, you shouldn't get any vibrations.

thats what i thought, thanks...i looked up the u joints and there saying that the aerostar ones are the same as the 4 cylinder mustangs but not the gt's? but i thought the gt and the 4 cylinder were similar?

If I recall, you have to get a special U joint for one side (or both) for the Aerostar driveshaft to fit the Mustang. I've seen people post the correct part numbers. Any Napa store with good counter help can supply them for you.

For example....When I bought the 3 U joints for our 05 Chevy 2500HD pickup...they actually just matched them up, because all three were different from one another, and the middle joint had two caps that were bigger than the other two...(on the same U joint.)

just an update....i got a 97 driveshaft and its definately not a direct replacement...the bolt pattern is different where you bolt it to the rear...
so it requires swapping over your old stuff and getting the correct u-joints...then it bolts in... you may be able to use the slip yolk off the aerostar ds but i wouldnt reccommend it because of the weight, it has some sort of harmonic balancer on it and its really heavy which kind of defeats the purpose... the ford racing aluminum ds doesnt have one so i find it to not be necessary...

the correct u-joints are the 353's as mentioned in all the aerostar ds threads...

does anyone have specs on these ds's for the torque or hp they will handle?
