OK, can someone tell me why AFTER the motor swap and putting in the coil-over kit (and raising the rear 1/2 inch) does the driveshaft rub on the e-brake holder?? (and cut into the metal) I'm only putting down like 320-330 tq to the wheels or so, but still, some of you with superchargers and aluminum driveshafts that are lowered must be cutting through your driveshafts???

I don't know what to do? I could lift the rear-end another 1/2" but then its loosing the slammed look? what did anyone else do? I'm thinking of getting a stock driveshaft back in to fix this problem, I can't floor it anymore!!!

(oh, this happens in 1,2,3,4 gears WOT)

hey, the stock pinion snubber is there, and something I don't understand is if you put a longer snubber, that restricts suspension right? or does it?

as for stiffening the rear-end, I have 225 pound coil-over springs in there already, that's pretty stiff.. or maybe it isn't.. since they aren't progressive like the old springs maybe that's why..

as for beating down on the eBrake piece I have to take the driveshaft out to do that, that might be the end result but there really isn't a lot of metal to beat down..

and finally (haha) I wouldn't sell you the driveshaft since it has about 1/16 inch taken out of it where the rubbing has occured, I don't know how thick this driveshaft is but I have to be close to cutting through it..??

When I had my car too low it rubbed just like yours. I removed the ds and grinded down the area where it was rubbing...it helped some. My cure was raising it up some more.
Just wait untill you have extra weight in the back (people or stuff in the trunk)

okay, guess I'm going to have to do both those, I'm going outside to lift it now, and I'll get the shop to grind it down when they put in a new driveshaft, this is scary how much material is cut out of the driveshaft..

you can probably just re-arrange where your ebrake stuff rests... btw, aren't the alum driveshafts smaller than the stock ones? I mean, diameter wise... that's weird.

-not a very helpful thread, but figured I'd say my opinion... ya'll know you wanted it

no, the AL driveshaft was like 33% larger in diameter (at least for me it was, haha).. but thanks, I guess I'll have to pioneer a solution to this, I can't believe a search doesn't bring back any hits, there has to be more people with this problem.

my stock one is rubbing so what is going to happen when i put my alum one on ? i guess i'll try to move those parts when it put it on it hits the floor and the cables but i have lower control arms that i think will fix that problem .

I swapped out LCA's with the suspension/motor change and they didn't help, its the stock uppers that allow the axle to go sideways.. I noticed that I don't grind when I bottom out, its the twisting of torque that lifts the driveshaft upward and sideways.. uppers seem to be my next investment.. and grinding that POS..

Wouldn't grinding the driveshaft screw up the physics of it spinning?

Yes, I really hope you guys are talking about grinding down the area on the car that is rubbing, not the driveshaft itsself. I don't have a good enough grip of the physics of it to explain it real well, but if you remove any weight from part of the drivesaft (i.e. by grinding), you change both the center of gravity and the weight distribution of the DS, I would think this could result is some vibration.

yeah, grinding away the e-brake holder.. with the small amount of material that is eaten out of my driveshaft my 3rd and 4th gear redline runs cause massive driveshaft vibration (it didn't do it just a month ago).. that's shows how fine a driveshaft needs to be balanced at those high spin rates. (6000rpm w/ 3.73's in 4th is a lot of rotation)..

I do not have any problems with anything rubbing against my driveshaft. I'm blown with Eibach Pro-Kit. My OEM pinion snubber is on, but i'm getting ready to replace it with a Maximum Motorsports pinion snubber as the car is bottoming out hard on medium to large bumps.

OK, simple update.. lifted the car another 1/2", and put on a MAC pinion snubber, fixed it up fine.. it had ground in 1/16" inch, and the wall thickness is 1/4" so I have a full 3/16 left.. nice to be able to floor the car again !!

yeah, that and I raised my rear up 1/2 inch ( I have adjustable coil-overs ) I think the height adjustment alone was enough but so I didn't have to worry about it I put on the pinion snubber as well...

good luck..
