H/c/i Questions

i was gonna go thumpers cause they are cheap and alot of people like them. Let me ask you this, is 250-260 rwhp close enough to keep up with a stock
LS1?

Possibly, but i'd still say No.

Figure this, nearly all Ls1's put out 300+ rwhp. But some just like mustangs, are bit freaky and put out up to 330 rwhp.
I've seen many ls1's in the 12's stock. With thumpers 12's are possible, but unlikely.

If you want to beat ls1's, get a set of the heads i listed. If you don't you are wasting your time and money.

And when you read peoples track times with ported e7's as a reference, pay more attention to the mph than the ET. Because a mustang that dead hooks can run an awesome time at the track, and look to be faster than an Ls1, but on the street would get smoked.

BTW, by the time you get heavy ass ported e7's to your door, and send yours out, they are not that cheap, oh, and don't forget you'll need a spring upgrade, there's another 100 on top of that, putting them at like $600

LS1's were advertised at 305 hp at flywheel, and 325 at flywheel for ws6 and ss camaro. So wouldn't they only be like 270 to the wheels?

They are adverstised this way, to keep corvette owners thinking they had a better car, when in fact they had nearly the same car with a different body and interior.

Very few differences in a camaro ls1 and a corvette ls1.

Vettes were advertised as 350 flywheel. Hence over 300 to the wheels.

If they only had 270, we wouldn't be so worried about them.

About 2 months ago, i beat a guy with an SS camaro Automatic, that ran 13.0, stock.

It's been shown on several occasions that they dyno much higher than that. I witnessed this for myself back in '99 when a bone stock Z28, still with the temporary tags on, ran like a 12.90 something I think, at somewhere around 105ish MPH, with nothing more than some sticky McCreary (sp?) road race tires to use as a drag tire. I was very impressed, and then embarassed when the best my stock Mustang could run was a 14.79 @ 92, eating most of my clutch while practicing launching techniques. It takes a lot to run with one, stock.

If i remember correctly MM&FF also ran an SS camaro vs their 2000-ish cobra (not 03/04), and they ran a 12.70, in 90 degree heat, and whooped the cobra's ass by like .5.

that sucks. Damn LS1's. I don't race much and don't make it to the track much either, just tired of my stang not gettin out of its own way. And it's pathetic top end power. I kinda didn't want to use aluminum heads, cause thier more expensive and i heard they have warpage issues, and are much easier to overheat than iron. I guess i'll watch e-bay for some heads. thanks alot guys.:nice:

What you have heard about aluminum heads is FALSE. Look around this site, anyone with a quick like 12.5 or quicker car here, has aluminum heads.

And ported E7's will NOT get much if any more top end power.

Sounds good.
Just when you get the heads, have the spring seat pressure checked and matched up, the morons that assemble them, don't put much extra time into them.

Should cost very few dollars at a local head or machine shop.

Aiming to beat LS1's in n/a form is not wise(not saying that cuz I got one, hey it's for sale!) they are brutal when modded with heads/cam....I'm talkin' 10's with stock displacement!

This doesn't mean you can't beat some. Most guys have the 10-bolt with nothing more than bolt-ons and a cam (~400rwhp). With a nice H/C/I you can put down 310-320rwhp. You will most likely be a couple hundred lbs. lighter too. With axles your rear end will be much stronger than theirs, which will allow for better 60' times, thus allowing you to atleast keep up with cars making 80-90 more HP.
