H or X pipe with flowmasters?

Is it good to have a crossover on a 4.6 with flowmasters? I have a f150 with teh 4.6 and wanted to know if i'de benefit from an H pipe or X pipe installed. I had dual 40's with 2.25" pipping all the way with no crossover. I recently put in a magnaflow dual in/out and hate it. Feel as if its chokin the exhaust with its built in crossover. I will be getting my exhaust re-done with the super 40's this time. God i miss that flow sound. Anyone have any experience with the super 40s?

Have the regular flow 40's welded in. Can not beat the Dr. Gas or/x mated
with the flows. Have had the combo since October 2003. It is somewhat of
a pain because the x has to be welded in but well worth the sound plus
increased respiration! Mark

got a truck too

i just got rid of my crapmaster 40's. had an o/r H in front of 2 40 series 2 chambers, and it sounded great, but i've heard too much about flowmasters choking the exhaust and especially on blown applications. i changed them out for 2 magnaflows this weekend and man honestly its a different truck. is quieter while cruising (which i wanted; that drone was killing me) and still mean as hell when i stomp it. plus, you can hear the blower much better.

it just felt to me like the truck always lugged so bad with those flowmasters on there, just felt so dead down low until the boost started kicking it. now with these magnaflows, its a lot more perky.

my H with flows sounded great. i've got a sound file here.

good luck i think you'll be happy with the X or the H. i think the X's sound a little meaner.

If you want a lot of pop then get a h-pipe and if you want it smoothe and mellow get and x-pipe. I liked the x-pipe better than the h.

When i had the flowmasters on it,it sounded great. It was exactly what I was looking for. Loud and obnoxious. Loved the crackle it had at high rpm revs. Highway cruising was great. It pulled great for a heavy truck. But i had in the back of my mind that I lost some low end which i felt but gained alot of mid and upper end power. Thats why i switched to a magnaflow muffler cause everyone said it was so great. Now i find myself kicking myself in the butt for switching. Should've just added a small H pipe instead. Would've saved myself $212, now i have to do it all over again.

So the concensus is to use an H pipe. Only reason I ask is some say that adding an X pipe actually hurts performance with a chambered muffler like flowmaster. And I know lots of people dont like them cause they don't really "flow". But I love the sound so thats why I got them. These mags are way to quiet.

Bullit, those clips don't work. Says I have to sign in to msn.

That is it. I purchased the universal kit which comes in 5 pieces: the x, and
4 pipes to the engine and the mufflers. I kept the stock cats. Only disadvantage is the welding but i paid a shop to do it. Whatever you choose,
x or h, is a personal decision but either way sure beats stock Mark

well now my only other decision is whether to go with regular 40's or super 40's? Would like to know if there is really that big of a difference in the sound?
