I had an o/r x pipe and couldnt stand the crappy sound it made. Can anyone recommend a good h pipe for a 97 auto gt? I heard they sound alot better. Thank you.

I am curious myself. I have a hi-flow catted x pipe and I am going to switch to an off road pipe. I have heard the same thing. The o/r x doesn't sound good but the H pipe does. Sorry I couldn't help!!!

There aren't many companies making H pipes for the 4.6L. But I'm sticking with an H pipe too...and it'll probably be just a MAC O/R POS. MRT also makes them...at about 3X the cost of a MAC.

i got another h-pipe with cats on it, mil eleminators, and driving it around all day to get it warmed up. i was close to failing it but i was within the grace zone of all the tests. my car natuarally runs a little lean so that helped that day.

I just got the Mac one for my 03. I dont know about your car but its hard to find H pipes for the newer cars.
My car will have the BBK short headers, off road h & 2 chamber flows that will replace the magnapacks I have now.

So true Snkchmr! Yeah, I forgot the thread starter was a Gen1 owner...for the Gen2, the BBK "H" is more of a clamshell "X".
For the Gen1, go with the BBK - they makes good exhaust pieces.

Actually, a Prochamber is closer to an X-pipe design, than it is to an H-pipe design.

IF you can find an H Pipe that has the rectangular stock type flange for the passenger side,, buy it. I think Maganflow has it this way. It will seal correctly. I have the MAC and it leaks slightly. it does sound really good even with the stock mufflers which are a maremont Turbo type anyway.
