So, I've replaced the rear main seal. Should I have let the Permatex Ultra Black dry first and harden on the rear main cap before bolting it up? Or, is it OK to put the cap back on with the sealant wet? I probably should have asked that question earlier.

Thanks,
Jim

For this application, wet is OK-no need to let it dry.

Hopefully you also cleaned off the block and maincap with something like lacquer thinner first so that the silicone makes good contact.

I cleaned the cap and block surfaces prior to sealing and reassembling. So, no problem there. I just started getting second thoughts after I reassembled it with the sealer wet.

Thanks,
Jim

Nah, no troll here. I got nervous after I bolted up the rear main cap and I figured the title would get me a quick answer. If I made a mistake, I wanted to quickly correct it. I'll be a bit more discrete in the future. Sorry for the alarm.
