Hard starting

My car usually starts up first turn when its cold, along with one or two pumps of the gas to turn the choke on. But when I drive for a while and it gets up to running temp. and I go to restart it it will take a while to start. It sounds like my timming is to far advanced, but its only at about 8-degress, the only way she'll start up again right away is to give it more gas while starting it when its hot, but usually I don't need to do this. Its like whats the deal. It acts as if its flooded, but its not. I don't know any suggestions.

Mine isn't too bad to start when, hot, but definately not half as fast as a cold start. If it's really tough you might want to try a starter heat shield?

mine does the same thing tc67pony, starts so easy cold, but once hot, it turns over for a bit before starting??? i dont know what the problem is

I've found that my car will be harder to start after sitting for 15minutes to about an hour. To fix it I usually feather the throttle a bit while the key is in the start position and this keeps the engine from dying right after startup.

Mine is just the opposite, Is it turning over fine when it is warm or is it dragging some

yes, feathering the throttle definetly helps, but I have had a couple of people tell me to look into a heat sheild.

starter is dragging as its most likely overheating because the exhaust pipes are real close to it. As stated, you can purchase a heat shield for the starter. . Another possible fix is a high torque mini starter, which gives you more space from the exhaust.

Sounds like a heat soak condition at the starter as some have put forth.

Timing would be another problem, but you have ruled that out.
Next could be a heat soak condition in the fuel system, aka vapor lock.

These would be the areas I would look at long and hard.

my 65 FB did this, i agree with the starter, it sounded ALOT weaker during a warm startup. It would nearly sound like my battery was dead o.O

Since you didn't mention that it was slow turning over, I wont presume it is a dragging stater. More like a too rich choked condition, or poor tune. Check the condition of the plugs, points if you have them, carb idle mixture screws and it may be posible that you have a float problem.

No its a daily driver just about, I have electronic ingnition so points are out. Somtimes the starter will turn over very slowly--like the battery is dead or somthing, but once I give it gas the starter will spin faster and the engine will usually start. It could be running a little rich on the choke, but I also need to check my air fuel mixture too posibbly, I need to get my vaccum gauge out. But now I really do think its the heat from my headers.

Check the condition of your cables also. If the starter is spinning slow, the cables are heating up. Clean all connection points to guarantee good contact and r&r anything that is corroded or weak. I went to a larger guage cable set up on mine and eliminated the same problem that you are having with warm starts. Worth a check and might find out that you aren't in need of a starter.
