Well, the title is a mess. What I want to know is, do I need to use a hardened nut to hold the oil pickup tab on the stud? I bought the correct bolt from the dealership, for the 351W swap. Even though I notched the tab, it should still be ok to use, right? Also, it has some wear on the spot where the crank was hitting the tube, but there are no leaks. Are lockwashers a good idea with this? Also, how can I check clearance on the tube before I re-install everything? Thanks.

Ok,in order:

1.Yes.A Grade-8 nut would be fine.

2.Should be.As long as its not fractured any were.

3.Yes,you could use a lock-washer.

4.Simple.Just turn the motor over by hand while looking at the rod end/bolts.
