I'm interested to know if there´s someone out there that has tried to get an aftermarket Harmonic balancer for high performance, to fit an engine with AC and PS.
I've got a -69 mach 1 with a 3 sheeve crank pulley. The stock balancer is only about 0.750" thick and my Romac balancer is about 2" thick. Obviuosly I can't fit the pulley to that damper since I would have to move PS pump, AC and waterpump pulleys by 1.25"

Does anybody know if there's an aftermarket high performance balancer that is no more than 0.750" thick or do I have to look for an original replacement?

As always, any input is appreciated

The stock balancer ring may be .750 thick, but the hub the pulleys sit on sticks out farther. I've run across 2 different offsets for these on small blocks, Measure the length from inside the hub using a tape measure from the edge that goes up against the timing gear forward to the flange the pulley rest's on. Then make a decision as to what aftermarket balancer you need. The 70-up balancers all have about a 4-1/4 or 1/2" distance here.

harmonic balancer

I've found some company called Damper Doctor and I've got a couple of pictures of dampers from that website. My damper looks like this: http://www.damperdoctor.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=DD&Product_Code=FOR3021&Category_Code=FOR

As you can see, the flange that goes against the pulley isn't that much taller than the balancer ring. I've come across another damper that probably would correlate to my Romac. It looks like this:
http://www.damperdoctor.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=DD&Product_Code=FOR3517&Category_Code=FOR

The biggest problem is that the companies that sell the dampers rarely specify anything else than the imbalance weight and the dia. Anyway, I'll measure the damper as you told me and then I'll be hunting for a replecement for the Romac.

Thanks!

Ok, I see you've got the 3 bolt balancer, the 4 bolt style has the balancer ring closer to the timing cover. You'd need something similar to the Boss 302 or 289 Hi-po unit.
