Alright, I just had the shop put in my holley 155lph fuel pump and find why my car was smelling like gas. It's the rubber piece from the filler neck.

anyway, they also noticed that my harmonic balancer isn't there.. Is there any reason the person before me would take it off? Maybe to rebalance the crankshaft because a bearing was ****ed? I mean.. I got the car for 3500 and already I had to replace the tranny.. If this is off that means the engine is pretty ****ed and he just did it so i wouldn't hear the noise of the bearing.. any other ideas?

:fuss:

Oh, & when he said the blancer is "off" .... I think he may have meant "out of wack" (instead of missing, lol). This can cause serious damege to your engine!!!! Fix it ASAP .... don't drive it until you do!

Remove the crank pulley, and crank bolt. Use a balancer puller to get the balancer off, I used an impact to take the crank bolt out then a bit 1/2" drive wratchet for the puller. If you don't have an impact put the car in 5th gear if its a manual then you should be able to brack the crank bolt loose. Once the balancer is off, put the new one on lining up the groove. I used a deadblow hammer to tap it on most of the way then used the crank bolt to finish it off. I'm sure there is an installer for it.

steps...
1. remove pulley
2. remove crank bolt
3. remove balancer
4. put new balancer on and tighten up crank bolt
5. put pulley back on

Sorry don't mean to confuse by adding anything else. But when you begin you should take off your fan shroud and the coolant overflow tank out of the way. Not hard to do at all but gives you a lot more room. I don't think I had any room to put the puller in there without them off. When I put my new balancer on I didn't have to force it or anything, it just slid on like butter. I guess everyones is different though, just make sure you clean the surface very good. They should have supplied instructions with your balancer. It is a job you can do at home so don't go out and spend a lot of money for someone else to do it. When your done you'll say to yourself how easy it was.

Put ATV on the key groove in the balancer, and a good bit of it on the back of the washer for the crank bolt.

The crank bolt torque spec is 110 to 130.

Pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual for all the details.

But this is easy to fix, and you DON'T want to drive on a balancer that goes out. (I cracked my timing cover)
