update, craftsman WAS my favorite name brand tool.. untill last night when the pullers head came off and started threading into the crank without any kind of warning... completely useless bottom end now.. i think.. rebuild time..

on another note, i felt around inside of the balancer, there seemed to be some rubbery stuff in there, i think whoever did this last put a bunch of silicone in there.. maybe thats why its so hard to get off..

You can fix the threads on the crank. I seem to remember a sleeve of some sort. I can't remember. BUt don't give up on it just yet. How much of the threads did you mess up? Because you can clean them up with a rethreader kit possibly.

I have never heard of a HB being this stuck personally. I am wondering if you are doing something wrong. You do have the tapered head on the tip of the threaded shaft that prevents the shaft from going inside the crank, right? Do you have all three bolts running through the cast piece of the puller into the balancer, right? And you are tightening the threaded shaft with a wrench/socket on the end, right?

Just making sure. Sorry to hear about your plight.

yep, everything was going well, untill i realized this is starting to suck!! so i took it off and looked at it. a good 3/4 - 1'' was threaded into it.. crappy situation. wouldnt this end up throwing off the balance of the whole crank shaft in the end anyways?

It's common to RTV the keyway - that's probably what you're seeling.

How far off are the puller's threads and the crank bolt's threads? Do they look really mangled in there (the end of the crank)?

If this works out, be super sure not to use the crank bolt to draw a new balancer up - that's super hard on the first couple threads and with it as it is now, it's not an option.

Good luck.
