I'm looking to step up my bracket car for the upcoming year. One of our local tracks is looking to split up our footbrake bracket class into Pro (10.00-13.99) and sportsman (13.00-slower). I currently run in the mid 14.2's during the heat of the winter. The sportsman level class is usually for beginners and pays out much less. I want to keep running Pro class since I am not new at this and also I am used to being the first car off the line and not the one chasing. The problem is Moroso runs 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile. According to the NHRA rulebook, their 1/8 mile equivalent to a 13.99 is 8.59. Which is not the case, but if our track goes with the 8.59 rule on the 1/8 mile nights, I will need considerably more to run 8.59. Basically, I need 3 tenths on a 1/4 mile night and a half second on 1/8 mile nights.
I am still trying to work on other options because I have never been a fan of nitrous oxide. I am trying to stay away from doing the H/C/I deal because we have a very short offseason and when I do a H/C/I, it will be on a different motor. If we had known about this earlier I could have done an engine swap with my short block in the garage. However, I need a quick fix. One of my options is a set of Edelbrock Performer RPM heads I can buy used from somebody, but they have the 2.02 valves which will not work on the stock pistons. Perhaps they would with a stock cam?
Anyways, another option I am thinking about is the wet system NOS offers. I don't want to use a dry system to give me just enough to get by, because if I do use NOS I want to do it right and make it worthwhile. So I am considering this system. The smallest shot this system offers is a 150 HP shot. Has anybody consistently used this setup on a stock motor without and adverse affects? I know it could handle it, but I am concerned about regular usage. The car sees 300-350 passes a year, and if I do use this system, half of those runs will be with nitrous. I race 2 tracks for brackets, the other track does not have an ET limit, so I would run on motor only there.
Would this be safe? Any other suggestions are welcome too. Thanks in advance for your help.
