I know there's been some talk about this and whether it can or cannot be done and the general consensus seemed to be that it could be done however has anyone actually done it? Does the head-unit need to be replaced as well? Does the necessary wiring run to the trunk? What would one have to do to get it all set up? I have a shaker 500 and a buddy of mine is thinking about gutting his whole system to go to a custom system, I wouldn't mind buying it off of him but only if I know that it will be useable and easy to install. If I'm correct the only differences between the 500 and 1000 are the extra subs and amps in the trunk (and possibly a slight difference on the head unit).

Thanks in advance

The general consensus has been it is not worth the time, trouble and money. An aftermarket system will cost less and sound better. That's the simple truth of the matter.
