I HAVE A STOCK 98 MUSTANG GT. I LIKE THE DEEP TONE THE STOCK EXHAUST MAKES, BUT WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT LOUDER. WHAT TYPE OF X PIPE SHOULD I USE? I AM ALSO WORRIED ABOUT BEING PULLED OVER AND FINED BECAUSE THE EXHAUST IS TOO LOUD AND DOESN'T HAVE REQUIRED CATS. ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

A good midpipe is a BBK O/R X-pipe. Mine's held up great & been on a year. The headers are still shiny too. But if you really want 'sound' you she get an O/R H-pipe. You can't beat their sound. And as far as getting pulled over for exhaust being too loud, you shouldn't have to hurry unless you are doing headers as well. Just don't romp it all the time if you do.

I bought a upr X on ebay for $160 with shipping
It fits good and sounds great

The bad thing about being loud though is that they can hear you coming
I have been thanked by a few cops for my exhaust because it makes there job alot easier. :nonono:

But never pulled over or given a ticket for no cats or being too loud
Car is too low to look under for cats

check the laws in your state about stuff like this. Some places have visual inspections if you get pulled over, some actually test the exhaust coming out. In Kentucky nobody gives a damn so I have SLP LTs, SLP O/R X-pipe. Sounds raspy but a lot louder than stock, and the hp gains are sweet.

I Have No Mufflers On Mine, And Its Pretty Dam Loud, Never Been Pulled Over For Loudness, And It Still Passes Inspection As Long As They Shop Is Willing To Hook It Up, Been Pulled Over For Speeding And Cop Has Never Said Anything About It So Far,

Could you post a vid of your stang with the sound of no mufflers? I'm curious.....

I haven't had a problem with my setup

The only problem you will have is how loud you are, no cop will look UNDER your car to check for cats.

Now, DPS Troopers are a different story. I had a buddy get pulled over by a trooper and his car was to low to see under (pretty much), so the trooper called a wrecker to lift the front wheels in the air so he could see under it. :nonono:

On that note, o/r x for 3 years and never a prob.

I had the offroad x-pipe from bbk and the spintech catback and you could hear me coming in the middle of the night half way across town. My friend was inside his friends apartment and heard me coming and waited outside and said my car was extremely loud since i was still 2 blocks away. I would pass cars flooring it and the noise would hurt my ears and i did it to my friend also and made his ears. ring, it was awesome. hehe Now i got cats on it and love the sound that it now makes till i get longtubes i'll go back to no cats. Got pulled over once and the cop just wanted to know what kind of exhaust i had and other mods because he liked the way it sounded. We talked about cars for half an hour. hehehe

:bs: No mufflers and sounds good?

EVERYTHING i've ever heard in my whole life sounded like trash without mufflers UNLESS the engine is modded ( cams ) etc...

You say everything in your entire life without mufflers sounded like trash.. you are either *very* young, have zero interesting cars in your state, or have no taste for good sound.

I have an '88 GT with no mods besides CAI & electric fan, with no mufflers, which I get questions and compliments from, from nearly every mustang enthusiast I've met. The only negative I've ever heard was "it's not loud enough." None were from West Virginia though.. perhaps you all are like my home state of Wisconsin.. behind the rest of the country by about 30 years.
