has anyone track tested the difference between bamachip and brenspeed?

Trust me, I know the difference between a manufacturers canned tunes, and mail order tunes.

As a matter of fact, I first started out with SCT's Strategy Flash X-CAL II programmer that included their preloaded base tuning files, and although it allowed the end user to make parameter adjustments. It did absolutely nothing for getting rid of those dreaded stock throttle lag/hang issues. But since switching to my Bamachip's mail order tuning files, my car almost feels like it has an actual throttle cable.

Needless to say, I've been more than pleased with Doug's mail order tunes, and haven't looked back in over 2 years now. But I'am curious and have often thought about as to whether or not my car would benefit even more from getting custom tuned on the dyno.

Perhaps I'm just getting used to my current Bamachip's tunes, and want something more potent

Most everyone that has gotten a dyno tune that has a Brenspeed or Bamachips tune picked up less than 5 HP from the dyno tune. Their tunes are pretty dead on. You're probably just getting used to your tune. Time for some gears

Yup, it's usually ~3 rwhp gain from a mail order tune to a dyno tune.

I just posted in the talk section, but I'll post here, too. Only change I made at the track today was changing from my Brenspeed 93 tune to my Bamachips 93 Race tune. I've been averaging around 13.5, with no better than 13.49. First run out, grabbed a 13.273 with the Bamachips tune.

Take it for what it's worth.

damn that is a difference right there.

i wonder if it was all tune.

I mean did you hook better off the line? what was your 60 foot between the runs?

Did you hot lap your car or give it time to cool down on all runs?

did the air temp change a lot from the 13.4 to the 13.2?

ive been 13.20 @ 105 on brenspeeds tune with intake+exhaust+tires.

i wonder if w/ a bama id go even faster.

if course now i have 4:10's and lca's but still.

No hot lapping. I rarely hot lap. 60' didn't show up for some reason, but it didn't feel like it hooked any differently. My run after that wasn't good because I didn't get the tires hot enough and spun through first. But I can really feel the difference. I think Brent's tunes are probably a bit "safer". Doug seems to try to get the most out of the car. Air temp remained consistant all day.

I'm running a Brenspeed tune in the '05, and it has 4.10's, and the best it has done is 13.2. So I definitely think the Bama tune is better. Once I get doug to fix the AFR on my '05 tune, I'll be using the Bama tune on that one as well.

Is there a difference between Doug's performance and his race tunes? I ordered one from him Thursday and he recommended the performance tune, so that is what I got, should I have asked for the race tune? You would think they would be the same.

I tried all 3, and the race is definitely the best.

Performance tune - pulls up high
Torque tune - pulls about the same up high, but has more low end grunt
Race tune - pulls like a raped ape through the entire power band and the throttle travel required is reduced by about 50% (meaning pushing the gas pedal about 50% of the way down is actually WOT) It's a little jumpy at first, but you get used to it real quickly. It's neck snapping.

Just called Doug and had him switch the 93 performance tune I ordered, to the 93 race. Super nice guy. Very easy to deal with!

yeah, i might wind up trying his race tune as well.

thats weird with 4:10's that ur one car is only going 13.2's.

Because i have same setup except i had 3:55's when i was going 13.2's w/ 1.90 60 foot.

now w/ 4:10's i can feel this girl is gonna scream now at the track.

i foresee me going 12.8-12.9 w/ these gears & control arms.. who knows maybe better since we are getting a completely brand new racing surface compared to the 20 year old **** i was running on.

Cant wait for the FALL!!!

before i get the race tune im gonna wait to see what i can muster once the track re-opens.

are 410's too much for our cars?(automatics)

I had 410 in my 1996 GT and I did not like it at all on the highway. But going from factory 355's to 410, will it feel just fine?

I have the auto and went from 3.31 to the 4.10s. I love the way the car runs and kinda wish I had gone 4.30s. I plan on it when the car is relieved of its DD duties.

I ran my car from March '07 up until last month on Brent's 93 tune in my automatic. A buddy of mine just got an'07 manual GT a few weeks back. I got to drive it the day he got it and it seemed okay(compared to mine which isn't fair). On Tuesday, we installed the JLT CAI and Doug's 93 torque tune. Once again I drove it and it did help quite a bit(butt dyno)! It gets up through the gears pretty good now considering the 3.31s. Mine still feels faster, but I have the 4.10s and I don't know how worn his clutch is(33K miles). I still wouldn't mind checking out a few of Doug's tunes for my car one day.

It'll be interesting to see the difference; I got the Brenspeed C&L/X-Cal3 combo with their 3 tunes (currently running the 93 Octane Brenspeed) on 5/27 and last week just for the heck of it I ordered the 93 Race and 93 Torque from Bamachips (and 87 performance; how can you beat a 3-tune package for $115?).

Still have yet to try the Bama tunes, maybe this weekend.

Really nice to have ability to get relatively inexpensive tunes and load 'em yourself just to see the difference. I imagine I'll be collecting a lot of tunes just because I can.

Bamachips still has single tune files on sale for $50. Pick yourself up a 93 Race tune. That's all you'll need. Try it out.

I have his 91 race tune loaded into the tuner but not the car. I want to try it but afraid I will not go back to his 87 tune which I am using now. If I only drove my car a few miles a day it would be worth it, but I drive about 70 miles per. day.
