Has anyone with MGW shifter switched from orange to silver handle?

Tested out my new MGW tonight by rowing a few gears. I love it.

I see there is a silver handle that's even shorter than the orange.

Anyway do the swap? How do you like it?

Never noticed they had that, I like how the height appears to be shorter than the stock orange however it also looks to be "shorter" in the reach direction. You may have not noticed this yet only having it installed for a day but I am 6'-1" so I have the seat pretty far back, it does seem like I have to lean forward a bit to get the shifter out of 1st, into 3rd/5th which would be amplified with the silver handle?

I've got pretty good reach now actually. I reach fine in 1 and 3. 5th gear...well lets put it this way...i haven't really shifted much into 5th gear lately. Not much highway driving, so 1-4 is all i use. I'm pretty good with the 2-3 shift.

I do like the idea of even shorter throws though. I dont know why but i just love this shifter!

That is good then I'd give it a try, to be fair I haven't really tried moving my seat up any at all to see if it helps the reach...I may have the seat all the way back in fact.

I've nothing to compare the MGW to other than stock but I love how it feels, the centering springs that basically glide it into 3rd from 2nd gear is awesome...it just feels stout I guess you could say!

I love my MGW shifter like crazy but i have heard that the silver handle can make it somewhat annoying for a DD! I believe i heard that from someone on here so im sure the info will pop up soon

Fortunately I don't DD my car. Only put 700 miles on it since 2003

That's true.


Right now, with my seat in my position, leaning to the left to hang my arm out the window, I can comfortable shift from 2 to 3.

So I guess reach isn't an issue for me.

Mustang what transmission is your orange handle sitting on? I've been thinkin of an orange handle over my tri ax for my T5 for a while.

I have the MGW short shifter with the silver handle BUT it's not on yet. I'll probably install early next week and will give you some feedback Mike.
