Has this happened to anyone else???

A couple of years ago when I still had the stock chrome waffle wheels on my 95 GT, I needed new tires, So i took my car to Firestone and when my car was finished I noticed they had scraped of some of the finish on my wheels but at the time I was not too upset because i knew down the road I would be getting bullitt wheels, i finally got bullitt wheels in April of 2004 and they were still like new until three days ago because i took it to Firestone to get tires and an alignment, when i got home i was checking out the tires very closely and thats when i noticed that all four wheels have scratches, has this happened to any of you out there OR am I just unlucky, im so depressed because the bullitts cost me $700, i know that when they align a car they attach this device to each wheel, maybe thats when the damage occurs or maybe its the technician not caring about another person's car, OR maybe Firestone just sucks, in the future im going to BigOTires or maybe Sears or ???

It might be too late for you now. When I had my tires put on I made it very clear that I didn't want any scratches on the wheels. I made sure to check them before I left. They turned out great. They even put the lead weights they use to balance the wheels on the inside lip of the wheel.

It's ashame that auto techs don't have respect for the cars they work on. It is quite obvious when you look at a car to see if it's someone's pride and joy or it's just their transportation.

Find a shop that treats your car and you with respect and stick with them.

If you don't know of one, try the Ford dealership.

If I can't watch them work on my car, I don't let them touch it. Good mechanics and Techs will have no problem with letting you watch them work. I personally like people around when I work. Makes we want to impress them. If your there, they are less likely to make such a mistake IMO.

I have had 2 sets of tires on my Cobra, not a scratch on them. I usually go to Discount Tire. They always take care of their customers. I saw a guy get upset about a ding they put in his wheel, and they replaced it without argueing. If you have one arounf you, check it out.

Sorry to hear your new wheels are scratched. I'd be raisin some hell if I was you. I don't fork out my hard earned cash for some jackleg tech to ruin the enjoyment for me.

I would go to the shop and have them fork out $700 for some new wheels. Raise enough hell and they will probably give in. If not, sit in front of the shop with a poster saying how you were treated for a few hours. That may motivate them. Sorry to hear you got screwed and they didn't even kiss you or call you later.

I have noticed people pointing this kind of stuff out lately, and was wondering when this forum became english class? RC don't take my comments personal, just an observation. Sometimes when i put stuff on here i am in a hurry, and don't revert back to my days of perfect grammar when typing it. :rolleyes: :D


Back on subject, i would at least call them and see what they said. At the very least they will prolly give you a discount on your next visit or something.

i want to thank everyone for their comments, thats what I keep asking myself, WHY I went back there, im going to Firestone tomorrow after work but i should have taken pics of the wheels BEFORE the service and shown them to the salesman but i didnt, let this be a lesson to those of you that get new wheels for your Mustang to do some reasearch and find a good quality installer
On the bright side my a/t transmission was rebuilt about 1 month ago and its still working great, they charged me $1200 and gave me 6 month warranty :)

That's the reason that there's only a couple of places that I trust to mount my tires. One of my stock Tri-bars got scratched like that, and I've been very selective ever since. Try to find a place that sells nicer wheels and they'll usually be a lot more careful.

Your point is well-taken too. I dont really agree with "correcting" every little thing, but for cryin out loud...put a damn period in there once in awhile.

My daughters are 8 and 9, and I keep telling them the importance of learning how to speak and write properly..

OK...:OT: back to the thread....NO, that's never happened to me.

I had my rear brakes replaced at a shop and watched the mechanic do the work. Pretty quickly, I realized this guy was new to brakes (or any mechanic stuff for that matter). After taking my rims off, he actually had both of them directly under the car face up. I watched him drop a wrench right on the top of my wheel and I about crapped. I asked him not to use my rim as a toolbox, cause I also noticed he placed a small tool on the rim. He said he wouldn't drop anything on there and as he finished spitting those words out, he dropped another tool and put a good scratch on it. I yelled for the manager and had them put my car back together immediately and would not let the "new" guy touch it. Well he ended up putting it all back together and ended up losing my brake fluid cap. I got the brakes for free, $70 cash for the cap, and that guy got fired for being so careless. Thank you Precision Tune. There out of business now........go figure.

I use a local tire shop which is a favorite of the local Vette guys and they take great caution with nice wheels.

Gotta find a better shop. Sorry to hear about this. Better luck on the next shop.
