The plate that holds the hatch striker is rusted out, and now the striker is cockeyed. I have a feeling it's not going to hold the hatch closed much longer. Anyone have any ideas how to repair this?
You tell him cjman. Asha'man would have been driving his 2.3L around for quite some time with the hatch bouncing in the breeze. You could always go to that infamous place (the junkyard), I'm sure they have one also.
I think you guys are missing the point. The spot where the striker mounts to the body of the car is broken and pushed in, the sheet metal there is just torn. A new striker would just screw into that torn section and be exactly the same.
Cut & weld. I am sure if you find a hatch at a junkyard and tell them you need the area around the striker cut out they would do it. Then find someone who can cut yours out and weld the new one in.

Or, just get a thin metal plate with 4 holes in each corner, mount the striker onto the metal plate, drill 4 holes in the body and bolt it in. Doesn't have to be welded.
