just won a new hatch for the 88. tired of trying to battle the rust on mine. any idea how much it weighs? how many people do you need to get the thing on/the old one off?

it certainly seems heavy.

I think it took about three of us to remove the one from my friends old GT. I would say have 4 total.

IIRC the hatch weighs about 65lbs.

I am 6'4" tall so for me all I did was pop the hatch struts off and support hatch on my head while I took the top hinge bolts out. then carefully let hatch down without locking it.

Then I was able to grab hatch on either side and pick it up and lean back so it was supported on my stomach or upper legs.

Then I just walked over and set it down. But two people do make it easier.

im about 6'6, so i should be able to at least do it with two people then. 65lbs, psh, i thought it was like 250. haha. shows how much i know.

still need a midget to jump in the back and get the bolts, my hands are too damn big.

LMAO I remember the balance on the head idea... I did it on my mustang as I was converting my Capri into a wide body style stang (you can probably guess where this is going) anyway I was foolish and thought that the bubble back capri hatch was gonna be the same (less metal right ;)) WRONG I let out the struts and got beaned pretty bad. It took many beers to get over that one... it's easily twice as heavy as the mustang hatch which can surprise you if your not expecting it. Either way I got it off by myself. I think 65 pounds is a little on the light side for the hatch though... I would put it closer to 100. Or maybe it's just that awkward .

Anyone else have any stupid stories to share? I have LOTS where cars are concerned lol.
