Have a Few EFI questions

I am converting my car to EFI, i called ford racing and they said that I cant use my old gas lines that i need to get a tank out of a 86-93 stang, will this be a direct bolt in since mine is a 84? He also said if I go with the FMS wiring harness then I need the o2 sensor harness, and the fuel injector harness, out of a 91-93 mustang because the connector pins are a different size :shrug: i have no idea what this means, so are the harnesses different from year to year? Does anyone have a wiring diagram i can print off so I can have somthing to look at when i am wiring all of this wonderful stuff up :D Thanks in advance
also will a mass air cpu out of an automatic stang work with my 5 speed?

Mass Air computer will work fine in a 5 speed car, I have done it.

The floor plan & trunk stamping will determine the fit of things like the gas tank. The gas tank should fit OK, since the floor pan & trunk stampings are the same from 79 to at least 89, maybe the same up to 93.

the tank for your 84 is the exact same as the fuel injections except that the sending unit for yours has the fuel line come up out of it, while the fuelies have another hole cut in the top of the tank for the newer in tank pump assem. So yes it will fit, the lines that you were running for your carb were not meant to take the pressures of fuel injection so you'll have to replace them, I would just go the intank pump you can get alot of parts from the wreckers even 4cyl cars. :nice:

Naw, the hole is a turn lock mechanism. You'd be better off to get another tank, and the lines that come from the tanks on the fuelies have the in line filter that connect to it. I would just go get the whole thing from a junker, my 2cents

i think i will do that and drop in a 155 lph fuel pump to go along with it is that over kill on a motor with my mods? After i get it running correctly i am going put a new tb, mass air meter, and all of that stuff then a new intake.

A 155 lph pump is not overkill for your motor. You can run a 255 and be just fine. They are not too much more money and will allow you more room to add on to later.

only because the stock FPR is gonna regulate the fuel level anyway unless he doesnt have the stock one anymore.......

WHOAAAAAA..... :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Ok, to start with, I had an '84 Mustang GT that I converted to EFI from carb.

The tank will work just fine, you just can't use the in tank fuel pump. You will need an inline fuel pump. I kept my '84 tank since I did not want to mess with sending unit changes for the 79-86 fuel gauge. I bought a drop in pickup unit that Mallory made for the Mustang. It had a #10 fuel outlet fitting, and a #6 fuel return fitting, needed for a return style EFI system, which is recommended for street driven vehicles.

Yes, O2 sensor harnesses are different through the years. FRPP used to sell a sensor kit that had the needed sensors for the computer, then they sold the O2 harness separately in another kit with another harness. Summit Racing I believe still has them listed.

I started to go with the Ford EFI EEC-IV system from FRPP, but I changed my mind and went to Accel DFI. Other systems are out that are just as good or better. The Accel DFI was my best choice 6 years ago. It allows you to forget the Mass Air sensor, going speed density, but that means you will need a laptop and have an understanding of how to tune an engine. It is easier with a wideband O2 sensor for quick accurate A/F ratio readings.

I'm getting all technical here, but the stock tank will work just fine, just need a different pickup and inline fuel pump. I highly recommended running 2 braided stainless braided rubber lines from front to back following the stock fuel lines.

Let me know if you want to know more.

i would prefer the easiest cheapest way because i am in college so money is kinda tight. But i want it done right so if I have to shell out a few dollars that is fine, I want mass air because I have no idea how to tune it. Do you think the harness i have will work? It has the o2 sensor harness and the fuel injector harness also. Then the main engine harness is all there. My next question is where would I get the steel braided lines, and how much would they cost me? Also what inline pump do you guys recommend? I drive this daily which is why i am getting rid of the carb. thanks so much keep the post coming
