Have you ever heard of these gears??

maybe to count correctly and get rid of that trac-loc problem he could spin the driveshaft and count wheel rotations till DS was one full rotation? this seems to me like it would make both wheels spin the same number of times?
 
This is exactly how I did it...I jacked up the rear end and taped a part of the wheel and a part of the fender parallel to each other, I was going to tape 1 side of the driveshaft but i found an unusual mark that I used for reference...I turned the driveshaft by hand 1 complete rotation while watching the wheel and by the time the DS had completed its rotation the tire was only 3 quarters the way around...

Now if there's an error in the way I checked it then tell me how to do it, so I can go check what the ratio really is

You probably counted right but you didn't perform the test correctly.

Listen, Jack up the rear end of the car. Mark the tire and wheel well accordingly.
Get under the car. Mark the driveshaft with a marker or chalk or whatever. Have someone else spin the tire 1 complete turn , while you are under the car counting how many times the DRIVESHAFT turns.
 
Wrong way to do it -- get a friend to help -- have him/her rotate the TIRE 1 TIME while you count driveshaft rotations. Use the right side tire and be sure both tires are off the ground. MARK THE DRIVESHAFT -- it's simply too easy to get confused with other 'unusual' marks that look the same.
 
Ok well I did the test "the right way" and came out with the same results...except maybe its a little lower like 1.90:1 lol...Either my differential is toast and is giving my wrong readings or I really do have high ass gears...

It might not even be a 7.5 rear end, no one ever told me it was, I just figured so maybe you guys could tell me here's a pic

imagine how slow a 2.3 would be with 2.73 O_O

FoxFan is at it again.. 2.3's didnt come with 3.73's..... unless its a Thunderbird turbocoupe.... :nonono:
 
I dont want to bash anyone - we want to help you find your real ratio. But even by the method you used in post 24, the ratio you guestimated does not match the numbers you posted in that post.

Good luck with getting it figured out.

well i was told a while back a 2.3 had 3.73s or at least my old A4LD stang. I never got in depth with the 2.3 scene as i got a v8 stang.... but i know that alot of the smaller motor cars had much steeper gears than a v8 stang... they need them to move.

but i've always thought the came with 3.73s :(
