I just rebuilt my motor. It is a 306 now with AFR 165 heads and a F303 cam the timing is set at 13 degrees with the fuel pressure at 40 lbs. I bought a 3 row aluminum radiator and a mark 8 electric fan with a 160 thermostat. In the morning when the temperture is 60 it runs at 150 degrees but in the afternoon when it is 80 it runs 180 and then if i sit in a couple of stop lights it climbs to 210. What could the problem be and is 210 to hot for a motor to get and what is an un-safe temperture.

What fan controller are you running? When it goes up to 210, does it drop back down when you start to move again? I don't know that I'd run a 160, especially on an injected car. It doesn't play nice with the computer. It will keep the car in open loop when it shouldn't be.

I agree with the above questions. Based upon what you said, check your fan function (running at 100%, etc).

The car goes into closed loop after 30-120 seconds (the time and function are determined by the O2's lighting off, not coolant temps).

The low speed fan should switch on when the coolant temp. reaches 208*F. Does yours do that? In any event, 210 is OK and it's only above 230 that things start to get dicey for the engine.

Sounds like mine i put a similar cam in mine with trickflow heads and it gets to 210 in the summer even when driving down the highway, but never goes past 210! I also have a 160 thermostat, with a 3 row radiator.

I do not have a control on the fan. It runs at high speed all the time. I have never had problems until I rebuilt the motor. I am going to have it tuned soon so I have the timing and the fuel pressure correct. When it reaches 210 and I started to move it goes down a little but I was home before I watched it go down. I only have 200 miles on the engine.
