I'd like the do some very light tinting of the headlights and taillights. The ones I've seen marketed are way too dark for me. I really like the subtlety of the effect.

Has anyone done this w/ success? I haven't seen that many cars w/ it. I'm in Jersey. Is it legal? The ones on eBay say they are for off-road. If it's light enough, will it "slip" by?

Thanks

It is illegal in most states. I would check with the local DMV and/or police dept before I pulled the trigger on that one.

Where have you seen the lighter smoked ones? All I've seen online are the darker ones you spoke about. I don't really like the super dark effect either, but some subtlety to a medium colored car would look awesome. Post pics if you can or links if that's better.

There's a guy in my area (NJ) w/ a GT that has lightly tinted taillights. I've got to try to find him! I also thought I saw pics of the Shelby CS8 w/ the same thing. But then I also saw another CS8 (or CS6) w/o the tint. I don't know. If I ever see a pic, I'll link it. Time to do some fun research!

Have any of you applied the tint to the taillight itself?

South Jersey here..

I tinted my truck tails with VHT about a year or so ago. The stuff is great because you can hardly tell they're tinted when they're lit. Never had any problems with the 'man' and she even passed inspection this past January.

That's what I'm talking about! Nice, subtle, and tasteful!

Now...I'll do a google search in the meantime, but what is VHT?

VHT- Got it!

I guess you used the "nite-shade" tint? That must be hard to apply evenly on one lens, let alone evenly between both lenses. Did you have someone do it?

VHT "Nightshades" is a spray paint.

Basically you prep the surface, apply the VHT (I applied 3 coats - more coats, darker it gets), wet sand again, apply clear coats, and wet sand as needed.

Pulled both tails and painted them side-by-side, at the same time. They both look factory.
