Head & Cam question

I have a 92 GT and am looking to run mid 12s. I currently run 13.2s at 104 with this setup:

306 ci
Forged Speed Pro Pistons w/ 4 valve reliefs
GT40 Intake
75mm MAS and throttle body
30lb injectors
Shorty headers

I was thinking about AFR 165s and F303 cam. Any suggestions? Will that setup clear my pistons? Any other advice? It is my daily driver, so nothing too wild.

I don't know specifically what will clear or not. AFR's are always a good choice though. No matter what you will need to check your clearances with the pistons. The clay method has always worked fine for me. You can't just chance your whole combo on laziness.

The AFR 165 or 185's will both clear w/ aftermarket pistons. Ur pistons come with with 2 valve reliefs on each piston, not 4. One for an inline ford head and one for TW heads. I would suggest the 185's w/ Comp cam XE282HR, LT heades, Performer ll intake port matched to heads. the rest is fine.

*BUZZ* Wrong answer. Federal Mogul's website actually shows a pic of one of their Speed Pro engine kits, with 4 reliefs on each piston, allowing them to be installed either way.

You should always check piston to valve clearance when installing a new cam, to ensure you won't run into problems, IMO. You could be in the high 12's with the current trap speed you have. Is that with stock heads?

I think the setup you have now is capable of coming close to what you want. I think the right cam , gears and tires and injectors, ( I think 30lbs are to big for your combo ) 24s would be better , and a good duno tune will put you easy into the mid 12s

We don't know what his combo is, as far as heads. I'd stick with the 30's, because adding the AFR's will immediately increase your fuel demands. BTW, I've been looking for my old timeslip from when I had my Fox, but if I remember correctly, I went 12.83 @ 104, so you're in 12 second territory as your car sits.

Sorry, I didn't mention I already have this:

3.73s
Tremec TKO 500
Moderately ported iron heads
Close to stock cam
Subframes

I would like to keep using my intake and shorty headers.

With that said, how about that AFR 165s or 185s? Which cam, the f303, e303, or that comp cam?

Get AFR 165's, dump the 30lber's for 24's.

I believe the speed pros are stock valve relief size if not a bit bigger. There would be a good chance still that the AFR 185 2.02 valve size would still contact or become close to hitting the piston.

Good Luck!
