I think my head gaskets are not sealing i went through a couple of gaskets. is there a sealent that i am supose to use before i put them on? I dont understand why its leaking waterinto my cylenders? the heads arnt warped I had them checked out. any other reasons?

Years ago I used a copper sealant that you sprayed onto gaskets before you set them into place. It was great stuff for many different applications including head gaskets. After you spray them they become very tacky and my thought was that if nothing else it would help hold the gasket in place.

your block can be warped aswell, put a straight edge on it and check with feeler gauges.

how are you preping the block and head surfaces before you install the heads? use a gasket remover and putty knife

are you torquing the bolts in proper sequince and torque stages? refer to any manuel even a cheapo haynes book explains this.

as for gasket goop on the headgaskets if the instructions that come with the gaskets dont call for any dont use it.

Check for warpage because you shouldnt need sealant on the gaskets. Also, run a tap/ thread cleaner through your threads to make sure your getting proper torque specs. (60-70 ft-pounds for sm. block)

Ok i had the engine rebuild about 2 years ago and I checked it at home and the heads got looked at a couple of weeks ago by a michine shop. I am pretty sure the block is not warped and the heads I know for a fact arnt warped eather. I tourqed the heads to 75 and still it leaks I am thinking its from the intank manifold but i dont know where I replaced all the gaskets and used about 2 bottles of rtv glue just in case.
This problem is really ticking me off. I had the block tested for leaks or hair line cracks before the rebuild but not the heads. the block passed so i didnt want to waset anymore money so i did not do the heads.

there is one problem I saw in the block and heads, on the right hand side of the left side of the block and the right side of the right side of the block there are water ports that get coverd up by the head gasket I tried to look for different head gaskets ever where but thety all truned out to be the same one so I asummed that they are supose to be blocked off.?
