head gaskets... dry vs coated

what are your thoughts?

i understand that if the machining is correct it doesnt need it. which is all well and good but ive never heard of anything it hurts. but ive also heard it helps with heat transfer.

any reason you guys know of NOT to coat a head gasket before install?

Only ones I coat are MLS, for that I prefer the Chrysler MLS spray first, if not copper. Regular paper of graphite or composite gaskets go on dry.

I cant see the thin layer of copper spray doing that much for heat dispertion on a composite/paper or graphite gasket. Just more to clean up when you have to pull the head. Just make sure everything is clean and dry before install.

i plan to wipe everything down with acetone unless you have a better suggestion

Just something that doesnt leave a residue...I use lint free cloths as well

I use spray carb cleaner and simply install. I have always used Fel Pro or similar composite gaskets though.
