I am building up a 331 stroker for me 94 cobra. I am debating on whether I should use my GT40 heads and cobra intake. I would get the heads cleaned with new valves, seals, retainers, and springs. I don't want to put a lot of money into these heads. I'm thinking about 400-500 bucks worth of parts and cleaning on the heads. Anything more I would most likely hold off a little while and get some heads with a 64cc chamber(needed for my compression ratio). I am not looking for a ton of horsepower as I am using a stock block. I would like to see maybe 400 to the tires with a sq s-trim with like 6-8 lbs boost. Should I use my GT40s and cobra intake and possibly reach that number. Anywhere from 380-400 RWHP on a very conservative tune. Thoughts anyone

my two cents is that i don't think you will be able to hit that 400 to the ground mark with those heads, unless you do a bit of work to them and or some other things to the motor. I think the vortech with 9 lbs of boost is adding about 40% to 50% of hp. On the other hand it might be possible. Do you have an idea of what hp you have at the moment. If you have around 300, right now, you can do it

The motor is still in the building phase. I have't built it yet I have almost all parts except for fasteners and heads/intake to bolt on. If I can produce 275 rwhp with the 331 at between 9-9.5:1 compression with GT40 heads and cobra intake I think I will be happy with the blower @ 6-8lbs. I don't want to put a lot of money into the heads when I can get better ones for a little more money. Then again if I get better heads like windsor sr. with my intake I am not getting the most potential out of the heads. I want the motor to look mostly stock except for the blower of course. Any other thoughts would be great. Thanks

:Word: Id have to agree, 400rwhp will be bard. I wouldnt waste your time or money cleaning them up, just slap them on save your $$$ and then buy a set of afr 185 and you be set...just my .2 cents:SNSign:

We worked over the stock GT40 irons on my fathers 93 Cobra, Extruded honed the intakes, 2031 cam, stock rockers, full emissions legal, cats etc... 331ci 9.5:1 comp, and with a A-trim making psi, we made 425/465 to the tires all by 5800rpm tuned with a AFM PMS, torque was over 300 at 3000rpm...perfect street car.

on that blown motor, your gonna pick up some HP by having it tuned properly as rick mentions in his post aobut his dads cobra.
Just make sure that you get enough fuel to feed that motor.
The heads that you are working with are nothing amazing, but put that $500 into them and you will be more happy with them.

what cam/intake ya gonna run?

I would like to stay with my stock intakes upper and lower. I don't really want to port them either. If a little work needs to be done to the heads then thats fine but I don't want to get 1300 buck afr's either. Maybe my 400 hp goal is not in range. I want the car to be emissions legal and appear stock. I have a new E cam that I am thinking about running. I also am interested in the 2031. I am not sure what would be better for my application. In all honesty even if I don't make 400 I don't think I will be disappointed in the power I will have. I would like to stay with my 24lb injectors. I have a walbro 255hp intank pump already. I am looking to make a relatively fast car for the money I am going to spend on it.

Another good choice go with the tfs twisted wedge heads witha holleysystemax intake it offers killer power gains, and the combo is very well worth the money.

I am very limited in the heads that I can get. I need a head with at least a 64cc chamber. This will give me a CR around 9:1. TFS, AFR, and some other excellent heads are only available to 61cc. I've thought about Roush 200's, but I have heads that are already the right size for my application at 65.5cc. There is no sense for me to get better heads when I want to keep my stock cobra intake. I like the way it looks stock. I would like my car to be a very stock looking 331 but blown. Power is a byproduct if you will. I think I'll have plenty of it. Not a track car by any means. Just my fun weekend driver. If I kept my stock heads with a little work done to them, my cobra intake and 6-8lbs boost what would anyone think my rwhp would be around with a good tune on it?

edit: Also using a E-cam or 2031 cam with 1.7 rollers.
