Got a quick one I know someone will be able to answer. I got AFR 185 non-emission heads. What style header gasket do I need, square port or round port? I ordered this set from Summit, which is the square port (they looked this up) but when I got the gaskets and looked at the ports on the heads, I'm just not sure. Thanks for quick replies.

God I wish I had the package still. I called AFR and they told me the number which I ran out and got. I think it was a felpro 1212. But they are so big, you headers will have to be pretty huge to seal them. Meaning the area around the port of the gasket isn't very wide. So you need a large header to meet up with them.

AFR's website list the following header gasket from Fel Pro:

Exhaust Port Gasket Fel Pro #1415, AFR #6837

When I looked this gasket up, it specs for stock Ford Windsor small block (I wanted to get the best gaskets to avoid blowout etc). The picture of these gaskets look similar to the gaskets I got, square bore, but as you said, when you compare the opening in the gasket to the port on the head, the port opening looks very oversized to me. I'm using Hooker Comp headers. I haven't tried to bolt them up yet as I'm not ready and didn't want to open the gasket pack if I needed to return them ($35). Maybe I'm just being paranoid?

My 185s with a 1415, the top and bottom are a little bigger than the port. The sides are borderline, but when removed there was no sign of carbon on the gasket. It does not appear that the port could see any gasket anywhere.
