Header Gasket Leak, Major leaks

Both of my headers gaskets where melted or blow out causing a major exhaust leak. Would this explain why my HP #'s were low? What else does blown header gasket cause on my 93? A guy told me it would be a major vacuum leak, is this right?

Thanks,
Kurt

It could definitely affect performance, no doubt about that. As far as a vacuum leak -- not quite.
ya maybe he meant exhaust leak????????????? why do you think you have blown header gaskets? when i blew mine i had a loud ticking noice sounded like a go cart. the most common reason they blow is from being mis-aligned or not haveing a nice clean flat surface on the heads to seal them right.Did you scrap the block with a razor first? carbon and oil on the heads will prevent a tight seal and casue it to blow.FYI just my .02 good luck.

new heads and headers so it was clean. the bolts worked loose and they ticked really bad. I loosen the driver side and the gasket was in peices, burnt through.

The guy said it was like a big vacuum leak, because it was in front of the o2 sensors so it would impact performance & idle quality etc........
