Hey ,
Does anyone here have any instructions of how to instal headers on a 99-04 mustang gt ,or even any pictures of the whole process . I was gonan buy them and install them with my dad but I want to no what im getting myself into first.

It is a huge PITA!!! I had a good friend friend of mine that owns a chassis shop install my headers. I went with the BBK equal length shorties, because I have my trans in and out a fair amount, although long tubes are definately the only headers worth installing because the shorties really don't give you the gains to justify the cost. If I had it to do over, (which I can't, more on that later) I would get long tubes. Anyways, this guy really knows his stuff! He installed my gears, driveshaft, control arms, pulleys, etc., etc. Anyways, he said he would install my headers for $200.00 bucks in an afternoon. Three days later, after lifting the engine off its mounts, removing the starter, A/C, and who knows what else he said he would never install a set of headers on a 4.6 again for less than $1000.00 . Seriously! He said for the time he had in it and the huge PITA it's not worth it. And really, I'm not sure that the gains would really justify the cost, unless you did do the install yourself. Just my 2 cents

its not bad at all. i can do it myself in like 5 hours. there is a thread around here ill see if i can find or if some one else will post the link.

How do you go about dropping the k-member ,like what is all involved in doing that?

Get yourself a jack that will raise the car high. 2 big Jackstands for the chasis, a couple of smaller jackstands and jacks for supporting the K-member and motor.

Remove the sway bar, brake calipers, drop the struts/A-arms, take the nuts off the motor mounts, disconnect the steering shaft, and the 8 bolts that secure the K-member to the chasis. I may have missed something.

So, basically the entire front suspension and the K-member itself. I'll see if I can dig up any pics of one of the 4 times Ive done it over the summer.

If you drop the k-member do you still have to move the motor at all ,or is it fine just the way it is??

the install isnt that bad. i used the guide from fnsweet.com the motor mounts are connected to the k-member. i did the install all by myself and took about 7 hours. i still dont know how i put the k-member back up by myself. deffinitly worth it

you will want to support the motor with a jack/jackstand and some 2x4's.

this sounds like alot of work haha ,how long does it take the average shop to do this header installation??
